I caught the tail end of some Bill Maher show last night, and Ron Paul was on there. He has a good philosophy, IMO, but, I don't think he has enuf money to get the nomination. His philosophy is that other nations dislike us because we basically don't mind our own business, and thinks we should get our own "house" in order, then others will respect us, and want to be like us. He is Republican, and I think he is not well liked among other Republicans. He's from Texas, btw.

what I like about him so far.... He Co-Sponsored Dru's Law, which creates a nationwide sex offender database and requires stricter monitoring principals upon their release from prison. He also co-sponsored the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. He has been very active in passing legislation in the Senate for Veteran Health Care, including TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury. He is a huge backer of Defense Funding - including pay raises for the troops, efforts to improve military readiness, and the acquisition of new weapons systems. His first bill as Senator was the HOPE Act --basically increases the Pell Grant for college students (I had to fund my own college education, so that tends to be a to be a hot button for me). He is going after the oil companies...like with the Oil SENSE Act -- it cuts the hidden tax breaks to the big oil companies...part of it passed this last winter. The FILL UP Act is another one. He is very active in AIDS/HIV prevention...not only here in my state, but internationally. It is nice to see a politician that doesn't act like it isn't happening anymore. With a high-profile terrorism targeted city like Chicago in his state (considered one of the big 5 - LA, New York, DC, Miami, and Chicago)he is involved in the redevelopment of Homeland Security - which has been messy (at best) since 9/11. He is on a team that is looking at security at chemical plants, drinking water protection, etc. When it comes to Iraq, he is not for the complete pull out of the troops, but a responsible exit that will be good not only for our country, but the innocent civilians in Iraq. My dad is a Veteran, and Obama and Durbin have both made strides in my state to improve things at the VAs and they are both working the floor to make other Senators see that a change needs to be made. ...just to name a few. I've also read a lot about both him and his wife and like that they are self made, hard-working people. I read a lot of news and stay on top of what is happening in my state. |

Look at what they are voting for and legislating. Is it something that helps working people? Is it something that helps businesses? Rich people? Themselves? Children? Whatever is important to you should be important to them. Are they honest? Do they live with integrity? Are they judgemental of the poor? Are they bigoted? Do they believe their religion is the only "right" one? What's in it for them? What's in it for the taxpayers?

Romney has a good record as governor of Ma. He's also a smart businessman. However, he has reversed himsel on every single position that he took as governor. Also, during the debates, he named a peaceful association of Muslim-Americans as a terrorist group. I think that our foregn policy needs a smarter approach and a new direction. Ron Paul is interesting. But, I don't think turning over all government agencies to private industry is a good idea. With a profit motive involved, is our food supply really going to be safe? Do you want to fly with no FAA? I can't imagine what would have happened with the TB man without a CDC. With the exception of McCain, every GOP candidate vowed to continue torturing and the audience exploded in applause. AIPAC is backing Hillary because they believe she'll bomb Iran if Bush does not. She has gotten an awful lot of money from them. Richardson has an inpressive resume but was lousy in the debate. I like Obama's platform. He's terribly smart. Honestly, I think he can pull the country together. Edwards saiid something to Kerry which made him look like an empty suit. Newt Gingrich and Fred Thompson are entering the race. I find Newt loathsome for the way he treated his first wife. Fred Thompson's only qualification is that he looks tough and a brief stint in the senate. Of the people running, I believe that the only ones who believe a word they're saying are Ron Paul, Gravel, Kucinich and Obama. |

I'm growing less and less concerned if someone is a Republican or a Democrat. The definition of the two parties have grown so far away from their orginal intentions. I look more at the persons platform and what they have to offer. I ask the questions "Will this person make a good leader? Do we see eye to eye on SOME of the issues (it is impossible to find someone who will meet all of your needs)? What is their REAL agenda - where do their special interest lay?" One of the reasons that I like Obama is that he is still fresh, and not tied to too many special interest groups, both politically and personally....a good example is our current gas prices....think that has anything to do with the current admins relationship to domestic oil? Blame it on South America and the Middle East all you want, but the Occidental Petroleum Corporation officers disclosed that in 2006 CEO Ray R. Irani took home more than $460 million in compensation in 2006. This is one of the highest annual executive payouts ever at a US corporation. Only a few CEOs have ever made more money in one year, including Oracle’s CEO Larry Ellison, who received $706 million in 2001, and former Walt Disney Company CEO Michael Eisner, who got $570 million in 1998. From 1996 onward, Occidental spent over 9 million in lobbying the U.S. government and gave over $1.5 million in campaign donations from 1995 to 2000. (both to Repubs and Dems). You do the math.
