Schwan's and Shop from Home

I just got some stuff from Schwan's man yesterday. I ordered from them in years, but looked them up online and saw they delivered in my area. The man was in the area when he called me yesterday and had everything I wanted on the truck so he delivered. Anybody order from them? The prices are a bit high, but they had frozen pizza'a on special..and DD remembered their Cheesy Bread ring from years ago and loved it. Right now, I will pay for the convenience as I am home weak on TPN, and am scheduled for reversal surgery of my Gastric Bypass in a few weeks, so I'm going to be down for the count for awhile, and am not up to cooking much.

I have also been utilizing my ShopRite's shop at home service. I work on my shopping cart online throughout the week, adding things I remember that I need, and for 15.00 they deliver it to my door. This is so worth it to me right now. Especially for the 12 Packs of soda that have been on sale and the big bags of dog food that I don't have to push around in the cart. I do occassionaly run into the store for a thing or two, cat food and whatnot, that I run out of. I've only been "stocking" up with the delivery once every 2-3 weeks so it's worth the 15.00 to get 250.00 worth of stuff. They call me when they don't have something I want, or a specific flavor that I want and ask if I want another flavor and they read off what they have. They let you use your coupons, will issue rainchecks for o/s items, and I've had no problems with the meats either. I've seen them shopping around the store when I am there, and they seem to take great care in picking out the nicest produce, and meats. They don't just grab and run.

Anybody else try this?

I don't think we have Schwan's here, but Publix used to have the delivery service and I loved it. At the time I was home with twin toddlers and a 4 yr old, so it was well worth it. I wish they would bring it back.

we ordered from them about a month ago... the Apple Flautas are awesome.

I don't like the fact that because I ordered from them, I get weekly sales calls and they "come knockin" every week.

I love my Schwan's man! He comes every 2 weeks, we don't get any other calls from them and if we don't need anything, no big deal. My favorite item is the mini chicken tacos. OMG, they are so good. I make my own mexi-ranch dip for them too. YUMM-O! We also like the garlic shrimp with linguini and the chicken parmesean. Plus I get the chicken nuggets/tenders for the girls and they like the mini corn dogs too.

About 5 years ago I was out for a walk with my daycare kids and the Schwan's man stopped his truck and gave them each a popsicle. I thought that was so kind of him. He apparently watched to see which house I returned to with all these kids and before finishing our neighborhood he stopped to make a pitch. Thinking I owed him at least a small sale for his kind gesture, I purchased a few items and was very happy with the stuff I got. He continued to stop every 2 weeks and I continued to buy for about a year. I was satisfied with everything I ordered. They do have good food. Then finances got very tight and I couldn't order any more. He continued to stop for a year - every 2 weeks - even tho' I told him I'd contact Schwan's when I was in a position to order again. But still he stopped. I was beginning to feel stalked LOL. After about a year he took the hint and finally took us off his list.

we get delivery every 2 weeks. There are very few things I actually like from them though. Many things are simply WAY overpriced....even for delivery and a lot of the food isnt' good. Not even close to being good. I do like the plain frozen pretzels and the ice cream cups (which always melt if I try to buy them down the road at the grocery store)

We have a great Schwans man. He gives me a call close to delivery date, so if I don't need anything he doesn't bother us.....He lets me kids go out to the truck and help him unload the items and many times he and the boys end up if frost fights.....We always have to have the pretzels, both the regular and cream cheese stuffed ones and I usually always get the ice cream cups, which makes giving the kids ice cream quick simple and portion is easily controlled. Their Cheesy Quik Taters are good too......

ok, now I'm hungry.....

oh I almost forgot.....they have good stuffed potatoes.....yummy!

Does anyone know if they have low fat or vegetarian type foods? I see a truck go through my neighborhood and I've thought about ordering but after hearing the drivers can be stalkers, lol, I would rather ask you guys rather than flag him down to ask.

I guess Schwan's is good if you can't cook but when I looked through their catalog all I saw was a bunch of overpriced processed foods loaded with crap.

I use PeaPod grocery delivery - associated with Stop-n-Shop supermarkets - in New England. Delivery fees are $9.95 under $100 and $6.95 over $100 - plus I usually give a $5 tip. It takes me at least an hour to do the groceries for a major trip; my time is worth WAY MORE than $10-15/hour. I like being able to shop online and like having a chance to go back and edit and/or add forgotten items up to the cutoff.

It's been a long time time I've purchased from Schwan's. It's just not in my budget although I really like their foods and the convenience.

What really intrigues me is the delivery services ya'll are talking about. Sounds like a great deal and a time saver when you really need it.

Here is a different take on the prepared meals idea. You go there and prepare your meals, usually they feed 4-5 and you control what you put in them. We usually go once a month and prepare 7-9 meals. I make them on nights when I know I'm going to be pressed for time. The food is great! Right now they are only in South Fla, but according to the owner of the one I go to, they are expanding nationally.

no-fuss Meals - Home cooking without the hassle

My dad worked for them for years when I was growing up. He would bring home some of the dented or broken items. I love their ice cream, I just wish my waist line did. The root beer float bars are really good and I have found a new fav. the Mike and Ike bars are like a popsicle on the outside and sherbert inside, very refreshing. At Christmas time they have a big tin of French vanilla ice cream. It is the only time of year that they have french vanilla and it is the best ice cream I have ever had. I do not order every time he comes but I try to order at least every other time.

i have only tried a couple of schwan things, they were good but high priced imo not that great!
i'd like to try things i have heard people rave about like that cheese bread & tacos. but the stalker driver thing bugs me. not worth it. i hAte salespeople/strangers coming to the door..just won't answer it...get a clue and go away :-) so yeah i am not a good potential customer for them if the rep has to come to the house every week or two trolling for orders lol

I make all my schwans orders online ahead of time, so if my delivery guy doesn't have an order for me, he doesn't stop. Schwans is great for us.
