| Advance Needed on Toddler
My daughter (which is 2 years old) has pink eye, the doctor gave us eye drops and we are having the hardest time giving them to her, we've even had to restrain her and still don't get them in, anybody please have any advice on how to get them in her eyes?

LOL Carrie, I thought the same. ![]() OP there is a creme that the dr. prescribed when our son had pink eye. It came in a small tube and has a "vaseline-type" consistency. I can't think of the name but if Carrie's suggestion does not work for you maybe you can call and ask about that as an alternate. It seems like something like that would work better for a toddler. All you do is put the creme on a medical stick, have them close the eye and just smear it on there. It was really easy. Good luck!

My daughter has had more than her share of eye drops this year since she has an eye allergy. I know she is only 2, but if you talk her through it in a nice, patronizing tone about what you are going to do next, it will help in the long run. Surprising her will only teach her not to trust you. Also, I sit on my daughter(not too hard) to pin her arms down and let her close her eyes as hard as she wants while I put the drops in the corner of her eyes. It pools in the corner and she knows that she can't get up until she blinks a few times. At first it was hard, but she got use to it and prefers this method rather than my prying her eyes open. I found the ointments were very difficult to use. |

Did you actually get drops or ointment? I know they use to give Erythromycin Ointment in a small tube for pink eye though there could quite possibly be a newer better medicine out there now. If that's what you have, I'd call to see if you can get a drop. That IS easier. With the drops. Lie her down and get her to close her eye. Put a drop in the inside corner of her eye at her nose. When she opens her eye, it will run in. It does work. I had to use allergy drops with my son when he was three and it was not a fun process but...he eventually saw that it didn't hurt and after awhile, it took the itch away from his eyes. Good luck.......

My kids are older, but have had pink eye a couple times. My advice is to bag the drops after 24 hours.....they can sting like H***!! We just did the warm washcloth with Johnsons No More Tears Shampoo several times a day (use a new cloth each time) and the infection cleared on its own. The drops were more misery than they were worth.....
