Poor man!

Tink if I was the guy my seat would be a bit wet

Mich. Man in Wheelchair Takes Wild Ride
By Associated Press

PAW PAW, Mich. - A man was taken on a wild ride when his wheelchair became lodged in the grille of a semitrailer and was accidentally pushed down a highway for four miles at about 50 mph, authorities said.

The 21-year-old man, whose name was not released, was unharmed but was taken to a hospital as a precaution. He had been secured to his wheelchair by a seat belt.

"The man spilled his soda pop, but he wasn't upset," said Sgt. Kathy Morton of the Michigan State Police.

About 4 p.m. Wednesday, a caller told police dispatchers, "You are not going to believe this: There is a semi truck pushing a guy in a wheelchair on Red Arrow Highway," state police said in a release.

Authorities initially wondered whether the report was a prank call until others called with similar reports.

Officers stopped the truck _ wheelchair still attached _ at a trucking company. The driver didn't believe officers until he stepped from his cab and saw for himself.

"When he saw us, he was like, 'What's going on?'" Morton said.

An investigation revealed the man in the wheelchair had pulled in front of the truck at a gas station and it somehow became lodged by its handles to the front grille.

you should have heard all the 911 calls!!!

more than 50 calls from motorists!

He was crossing the street, the semi didn't see him in front of his vehicle when he started out from the light. VERY SCARY!!

He is ok though... he is going to baseball camp next week (he is 21 I think they said) and his parents are going on a much needed vacation.

Note: there is a difference between highway and expressway in Michigan.

highways can actually be streets through a city/town, but highways in between the cities/towns.

**expressways here would be like I-94, I-275, etc. those have speedlimits of 70 mph.
highways have variable speeds, to as low as 35.

That is just too scary, I'm sure that guy at to be scared. I was just sitting thinking of how shaken up I would be if I had been the truck driver. I can't imagine having drug some poor guy in a wheel chair down the highway....and not having known....I would probably become extremely paranoid whenever I was driving after that.....

Glad that it turned out ok and everyone can make light of it now......
