If you HAD to, who would you choose?

Okay, this is for everyone. If you had to vote for one of the republican nominee's for President, who would you choose. Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney, or Fred Thompson... AND why?
Just wondering...
I would for Mitt Romney... I don't trust John McCain, I don't like Rudy's stance on abortion, I'm not too sure about Fred Thompson though, I don't think he's a serious candidate... What do you think>

Rudy Giuliani seems to be the most real. And I adore his stance on abortion (considering he's a repbulican)

I would have to go with Rudy. Being so close to NY and seeing him in action, I would trust him more than a lot of people running. IMO he did a wonderful job after 9/11, that showed his leadership abilities at their finest.

I agree. Thankfully though, I don't have to vote republican.

In the spirit of answering the question OP posed, I guess I would very very reluctantly go with Rudy.

But in realilty I'd write in/vote Chuck Hagel (not running, I know, but he may) or Ron Paul.
Chuck because he tends to not toe the party line. It's hard going against what everyone else is saying, particularly in political circles. I also loved his quote:
Quote:
"To question your government is not unpatriotic — to not question your government is unpatriotic."
and
Quote:
"I took an oath of office to the Constitution, I didn't take an oath of office to my party or my president."
Thumbs up from me for that.
Ron Paul because I like and agree with a lot of his ideas. I also love what he says about patriotism. He also tends to vote based on the principals of the Constiution and from what I understand is consistent in that.

Know what? I voted for Kerry last time and felt so awful about it, I vowed never to try voting someone out of office (not an issue this time) and will ever after vote for who I want. I'm more Libertarian than anything and that's why I really like Ron Paul. He's not on your list, and I don't keep up with the media, is there some special reason you listed only those 4?

Fred Thompson, because he is most like Ronald Reagan in his positions...and Ronald Reagan was a very good POTUS...it's what we needed at the time, and what we need again.

I was on the Rudy boat until I realized his take on pro-choice, and that ruined that.

I really do not keep up much with politics.
I did think Rudy would be a good one until I found out how he feels on abortion.
I have always kinda liked McCain.
Don't know that much about Mitt.
I do like Fred, but wondering if I really just like his TV character!!!

Tough choice. I think I would vote for McCain. He has actual military service, and can relate to the military and I think he would do well with international affairs. Thankfully there is still a lot of time to learn more about all the people running.

I, too, hope Ron Paul runs....he's seems very "true". If all else fails, I think I'll have to pencil myself in.

I know nothing about Fred Thompson other than he's an actor, hated being in the Senate, rented a red pick up to campaign with and wants to do "lots of things" as president but cannot elaborate. He is tall.

Rudy,on the other hand, conducted himself well after 9/11 but was wisely despised as mayor prior to that. It's largely believed that he's a bigot. It's bad enough that he was married to his 3rd cousin for 8 years but the way he treated his second family was just shameful. As mayor, he conducted an open affair with an aide. Then, he lets his wife know that he's leaving her by announcing it on tv and tries to move his mistress into the mayor's mansion before his wife and kids can move out. I have heard that he's a megalomaniac. If you want a dictator, he's your man. Also, he approves of torture.

Ron Paul belives in no government at all. There would be no IRS, no FTC, no CDC, no FAA no FDA. I support his stance on Iraq. He blames this on ghostwriters, but ghostwriters are told what to write. He has espoused some very strange theories and made some totally racist statements. He approves of torture.

John McCain has allied himself to Bush too much. At least he doesn't approve of torture.

I believe that Mitt Romney will get the GOP nomination. He's who the big money is backing. And, he approves of torture.

If any of these men are elected, enjoy the hegemony.

I honestly do not know. I haven't researched the stances of the candidates yet. I am VERY pro-choice so that would be a major thing as well as I think our government needs to majoring rehaul the welfare and social security system

I do not like Rudy. He as a crappy major up until 9/11. Yes, he did fab after 9/11 but you want someone who can have the public's trust and handle themselves well when there isn't a major crisis going on. I don't think he's your guy for that. I get the *vibe* from him that he would let the power go to his head for sure. I have liked McCain the past during interviews but haven't watched anything recently. I don't like to get too involved until we have the major candidates and then research.

Smurf, I agree that Rudy was a terrible mayor and awful leader. He's built his reputation on 9/11, which is ridiculous since he did nothing to protect the city or to lead afterwards. However, he's the only pro-choice Republican as far as I know, so he'd get my vote while I held my nose.

Thank goodness I don't HAVE to vote Republican!

The only thing that probably doesn't make me Republican is my stance on abortion. The abortion stance is the only thing I have in common with *most* democrats. That said, I try to vote for MAN or WOMAN...not the party. I have voted for 3 different parties over the last 3 elections

You do realize that a vote for the Republican (any Republican) is a vote AGAINST the Democrat? I'm am flabbergasted that a person who is obviously intelligent would choose not to vote.

I have to wonder if you decide to not vote are you going to complain when the person that is elected to the position doesn't do something the way you think he or she should?

I would not vote for any of the options listed in your post. At the moment, my vote would be for Tom Tancredo. He will fight hard against illegal immigration.

No you are right...but I am so discouraged right now in the Republican candidates.... There isnt one I would vote for....but I guess I could just go in and close my eyes and choose....like you said it would be a vote against a democrat....I know in the pit of my stomach that the next President of the United States in going to be a liberal democrat and your right if I dont vote, I cant complain Sometimes it just makes you feel like..."Whats the point".....but I am going to vote for a Republican...I just dont know which one Sherri

Rudy Giuliani

He is the most liberal of the choices. I actually wouldn't be terribly disappointed if he won. I'm voting Hillary

I'd vote for Rudy over Hillary. At least he supports gay rights, which Hillary seems to be afraid to do. And she refuses to renounce her vote allowing Bush to go to war, which is a stance I find unacceptable in a Democrat these days.

I would never vote for a Mormon. NEVER EVER EVER. So, no on Romney.

I'd go with Rudy since he's more in the middle.

Just curious, but why? I guess it's really none of my business, I am just curious as to why someone would automatically "disqualify" someone because of their religion.

Ilovezingers... I would like to know about the mormon thing too... I know a lot of people felt that way about Catholics when Kennedy was running... I would just like to know what you have against mormons.
