So this is empty nest syndrome?!

Well it finally happened, my son moved out last night. Its time he's 21 and I have been preparing for it since last summer. I'm not sure how I feel without him. Heaven knows I don't mind tripping on his size 14's but this a lot of room (900 sq ft apartment) without him. Worse yet he hit my stockpile so some boxes and shelves have empty spots.

I guess my job is done, I didn't seriously hurt him growing up, he lived without the Nintendo and video games. He saw lots of neat things living in Florida (4 shuttle launches) and the fright we had in Baltimore (9/11 and Downtown closed down - we lived 3 miles from Downtown). He survived my cooking (I serve burnt offerings often) and he loves the taste of burnt peanut butter cookies. He's honest and law abiding (most of the time) and has a job that supports him without a college degree. That is my one disappointment he did not finish college but my boy is smart and will take care of himself.

Now who does Mom take care of?

Now Mom can take care of MOM!!!

Your post is too sweet. I don't know whether to congratulate you or give you a big cyber hug.

I'll do both.

Enjoy the peace (though I hear they do come back to hang out quite a bit!)

You should be very proud!! Trust me, he'll be back plenty. Just enjoy your time with other things now. Since he's 21, you've probably been grooming him for this for a while. Don't be disappointed that he didn't go to college. Going to college doesn't give a person a free ticket to make big bucks. There's plenty of jobs out there making lots of money without the degree.

Put your feet up and think of a job well done!!

Invite him over for breakfast/lunch/dinner often...
Take him out to the movies every once in a while...
Once in a blue moon take him grocery shopping and pay for it...

As for you, take back your apartment!!
Make his room a hobby room or a guest bedroom...
Find something to do to fill the "void"

If it's just you, you won't have to have such a big stockpile so don't worry if he raids your stash! Feel good that you didn't spend that much and that he's using it and it's not getting tossed aside or thrown away.

It sounds like you did a great job with him. I am sure he will miss you and he will be back often.

It feels good to have raised a good son or daughter.

Hugs!
Shirley

Now you take care of you, and sit back and watch him begin to put your teaching and examples to work.

It is like an artist sitting back and enjoying his work and watching others see all the nuances.

Engage in a hobby you have always wanted to but felt either it was too silly or a waste of time.

Pat yourself on the back!

Cry a little if you need to....
