Question about comparing blacks

OK...Do ALL blacks match each other? Any pair of black slacks match any black top?

The reason I am asking is I just got a part time job where we wear all black and I do not wear it often!

THANKS!

No, not all blacks match. Just like all white, navy, etc does not match. Wearing black over black can be tough. Depending on the job it might be best to wear black pants and then a sheer top with cami underneath...the sheerness breaks the color so if the shades are off a bit they still look okay together.

The only time I wear blacks together is if it was part of a two piece outfit. SOme colors look different outside too, so what matched in your bathroom, might look horrible outside, kwim? The texture of the material makes them look different in defferent light.

Fading matters too. Cotton can get greyish, and some dyes get greenish hues, especially in cheaper clothes. Stick with acrylics, or match fabric types, and wash different parts of sets together, so they fade equally. If it's allowed, charcoal with black works well, because it doesn't have to be identical.

I wish they did!

I have one top that has a brownish look when you put it near any other black.
Same brand as the slacks but doesn't match.

Well, I don't think all blacks match, but I also believe that unless you are specifically trying to be matchy-matchy you can wear different shades together.....
But, then again, I SHOULD soon be appearing on "What Not To Wear" TV show, so don't listen to me.....

make that two of us. I was almost scared to open this thread.

I have 2 pair of black jeans...same brand, same size, bought at the same store and at the same time....they are two different color blacks!

Fortunately I don't have to wear all black though.

I really did not mean to 'get' anyone...just worded it in a way that some could read wrong.

Thanks for the comments and tips about black clothing. Helps me alot!

I'd watch the co-workers and figure out who you think does a good job with the match (inside and outside) and then talk to them. They might be pretty experienced at this. I'm not!

I would tend to do the carcoal grey with black or use a belt to divide different shades of black...

I'd be sure to keep a lint remover in my desk!
