anybody wear wigs?

I received a Paula Young catalog in the mail today and there are several wigs with styles that I would absolutely love to have for DD's wedding in October.

I'm very skeptical, though, that the wig would actually look like it does in the catalog.

Now that I think about it, maybe I'll see if I can find any places around here that sell wigs so I could actually try them on before buying.

Does anybody wear wigs?

Not a wig wearer here, but, if you are afraid you will LOOK like you have a wig on, maybe you can take the picture to a stylist and see if she can style your hair that way instead of wearing a wig. I would be afraid a wig would fall off.

My grandmother wore a hair "piece", that was matched to her haircolor. Maybe that would be a better way to go? Guess it depends on where you need the hair too?

If you were going to get one, I would get it soon, so you have time to get used to styling it and wearing it before DD's big day.

I used to wear wigs when I lost all my hair to chemo. I bought every color and style you can think of. One day I would be a blond, the next day highlighted, the next day a brunette...I had a lot of fun with them. When you don't have hair on your head they can be itchy! But, I never spent more than $20 on a wig. I would think the moe expensive ones would be a lot better. The stretchy caps are more comfortable. If you have hair, then the wig will not fall off because you can pin curl your hair in several strategic spots before you put the wig on. The pin curls help the wig to stay in place. I can't remember the wig falling off even without hair or brand new hair. Depending on how much money you are spending, try one and see if you like it.

Britney wore hats when she went through the wig phase... I think the wigs were attached to them? Unfortunately, wigs might never seem the same to me after watching Brit Brit's recent hair experimentation.

My grandmother wears a hair piece and I've seen some pretty nice clip-in hair pieces that add to what you already have. I think they can look pretty natural if you pick the right color.

KellyJef, do you have long hair that you could experiment with? Maybe find a picture of a hairstyle that you like and do one of those online deals where you put the hair on your face... Cosmo has software for doing that too.

Either way, it does sound like fun... Let us know what you decide!

I have about three but they are just for David! LOL! One is a long blond wig, one is a short blue bob--pouty look and "I feel so blue"), and the other is a red one. Oh, I also have a short blond one. He never really knows who he's going to get sometimes. HA HA!

Oh, forgot to add that I have a friend who has been wearing one while going through chemo. It is SO cute and looks incredible on her. I hadn't seen her in several weeks, and when I did, I thought somehow her hair had grown back--only looking even better! HA HA!

Thanks for the responses

Unfortunately, I have very fine, soft hair that -- at the age of 60 -- is not thick enough to support the short, full hairstyle that I would love to have for the wedding.

I'm going to research whether there are any good wig shops around that I could go to to try on wigs.

Maybe I'll get lucky

Here is the wig that I absolutely love -- I love the style and the color:

KellyJef - Great looking wig. I, too, have baby fine hair that does nothing! Find a good wig place- take a friend- and go have a blast. Remember, your hairstylist can fine tune the wig for you. Unless you are going to an outside wedding in the deep south, I think you will LOVE the look and convenience of the wig. Remember, the pictures from this wedding will last a long time- you might as well look your best!!
