This is the same drug (Orlistat)that is being released over the counter, tommorrow under the name Alli. Alli is half the strength of the Rx pill. It blocks the absorption of some fat. The pill has to be taken with the meal ---IF you are eating FAT! It does not make sense to take the pill if you are eating a bowl of Special K and skim milk with a banana. Like all diet medications some work because the person works at life style changes and some do not because some people think the pill will do all the work. The side effect that people talk about is oily, loose stools IF you ingest a high fat meal and IF you took the pill. So, if someone wants to go to McD's why take the pill? If someone eats a fairly low fat, healthy diet there is little chance of loose stools.
