Insurance for Teenager?

I'm debating on which would be better Full Coverage or Liabilty ..Ds bought his first car " 2000 Honda Accord EX Coupe" It's a really nice car ....Leather Seats & Bose Stereo System in it .... The boy is really proud of it....He paid $6,497.00 for the car...We had plan on just putting liablity on it but decided against it for the time being until he gets use to a automatic again.

Kelly Bluebook for the car is $7,390 "private party good condition."

If this was our car we proably just carry liabilty on it but since Ds savings account is completely drain now ..I'm thinking he should stick to Full Coverage.. What do you guys think?

Monthly Insurance payments:

Full Coverage $200 with a $1,000 deductable
or
$110 Liablity

I always carry full coverage until it wouldn't pay. On this one I would pay full coverage until the value of the car hits $3400 (Yearly full coverage insurance $2400 + deductible $1000). At the time it hits the value of $3400 I would switch to liability.

HTH, it's the advice my dad gave me a long time ago.

We have a '98 Mazda 626 for DD. The whole car cost us $2000 so we don't have comprehensive & collision on her car, only PIP and liability. If she wrecks it, (like she did with her first car) we probably wouldn't repair the car, it just wouldn't be worth it. Our deductible is $250 and if its a major accident like it was with the first car, its not cost effective to put lots of money into a $2000 car.

I would say, that if he plans on keeping the car for awhile and it is a nice car, I would get the full coverage and maybe lower your deductible so if he does have an accident you won't have to lay out $1000.

we put liability on our cars when the kids started driving but also we have older vehicles for them, insurance here is super high, they wanted over $400 a month for full coverage on a small sedan when i was going to add the first kid to the policy. before that it was about $100 a month for full coverage. um i can't afford $300 more per month!
so, switched to liability, and also we added an uninsured waiver. that means it will not pay for our car if my kid crashes our car. but if someone else crashes into my kid or there is a hit and run etc, our ins will pay because of that waiver. it only added about $50 for the whole year, so it was worth it.
in our state they say nearly a third of drivers have no insurance so that is mainly who i was worried about. makes me mad our rates are higher because so many have no coverage, and nothing is done about it. where i used to live back east, if you canceled your insurance they would come take your tags lol - not here. wish they would!

If you can't afford to replace it, get full coverage.
