How old were you when you bought your first house?

Were you already married?

I was 26 and single. I was so proud of that house! I remodeled by myself! I can't drive past it anymore, the people who bought it cut down every tree and plant and painted it apple green.

I was 24, married w/ two kids. We bought a 5BR/2700 sq. ft. home for $140K. All of our parents thought we were nuts! We lived in it for four years, sold it, and made a tidy profit. That same house 12 yrs. later is worth about $450K.

22, married.

My oldest is going to be 21 this year, and I stare at him and wonder HOW it is possible I thought I was so old and worldly when I married at his age. I would have a coronary if he even contemplated it in the next few years.

I was 22 and dh and I bought a house shortly after we got married and moved to Lufkin, Tx. We've since bought another home, but use the first home as a rental property until ds has to go to college. Then if we don't have enough $$$ saved up for college.. we sell the rental to pay for college.

I was 28 years old. We had it built in Jan. 2100 sq ft. We have been here 13 years now and have grown into the house. I am glad we built when we did. We got a really great deal, awesome floor plan and a very quiet neighborhood(with the exception of my 2 LOUD kids).

I was 31 and married for 11 years. Had all three kids already. This was in 1998 so nine years ago. We probably still wouldn't have one, but DH got a nice inheritance from his dad that passed away. It was a modest home, but it was one that when I walked in..I knew I wanted it. Plus there was an omen, on the mailbox when we drove up, the last name was "Kelly" and I got a weird feelng, cause that was my maiden name and the room that sold me the house, was a family addition family room with knotty pine and a woodstove. This wood was wall to wall in the house I grew up in. I fell in love immediately, although, now it needs sooo much work, but slowly it will get done.

Now I can't wait to sell it, kids are growing up, and I have been sick, our business is running us ragged and we can't keep up. I'm ready for a smaller house, or even a condo.

DH and I were 26, put down deposit 3 months before our wedding but due to sellers problems, closed on it 1 week before wedding. Lived there about 8 years and lost a little money on that house.

I wa 44 and hubby was 42. Just last year Already considering selling as we just can't afford it on my disability income. He's got heart problems (pacemaker..yes at 42) Actually the first one was at 25! So I really want him to be able to stop working when he can no longer work. He deserves it. He is a wonderful husband and father. I want to be able to afford to let him relax.

Oh sorry..guess I got OT a bit there..lol! Apologies everyone.

19 or 20- it was with my first husband, we bought a HUD home and fixed it up.
We bought it for $30,000 and sold it for just over 100,000 when we divorced.

I was 23 and engaged when we bought a townhouse. I split with him and we sold it, I kept most of the profit because he only lived there for 3 months and it was all my down payment, he never contributed a dime.

I used that $$ for the downpayment on a home with DH a year later. We bought it for $130 and sold for $290 a year ago this week.

1994- I was 24 he was 23- we were engaged and planned wedding for six months after.
I was not allowed to sleep there though. Kinda funny paying a mortgage on a house you can't stay in but
why annoy my parents?
It was very teeny, tiny but it was ours.
Traded up in 2000- house not husband

My DH and I had been married for a little over a year when we bought our first house. It was a smaller house but all we needed at the time (and could afford). It was better than paying rent. I was 24 and he was 22 (yep, I am older than him).
