I hated my name growing up-Lynne Smith. How boring is that? And of course, I am sure you all know my brother, Mike Smith. My parents were VERY original. I married a guy w/ a long, unique last name-that was part of the attraction-lol....

I bet your French name is a lot more exciting-ppl here will think it's exotic...

I think I used to work with your brother- a physician's assistant named Joe Smith. Poor guy. I always felt bad for him.

Not really... my name is Sonja (and while the J trips up a lot of people, I have gotten used to correcting the pronounciation or just ignoring it if I'll never see the person again).

Awwww, I LIKE the name Jodi!

I lived in Columbus, Ohio for a couple years - ages 5-7. I had a best friend there named Jodi.

My Mom and I ended up moving back to Toledo and I was heartbroken about not being able to see Jodi anymore. We did keep in touch for a bit - lost touch - then again for a bit in junior high. Her family moved after that and I could never get the address. That's it though. I've always wondered what happened to her.

The name Jodi brings back some nice memories for me.

mataje- You can have any name you want but a name change is separate from becoming a US citizen-as far as I know. My husband had to do a name change because his birth certificate was wrong! He was born in Japan. It cost us $250 to put the e back on the end of his name. (Clark to Clarke)

I hate my name. It sounds too kid like. I am one of a million Heathers born in the 70's. Don't know what I would change it to though.

I hate my name, always have. No one can spell it right the first time either. It's not a very common name. Although my name does make a compound word! Jeannine (jean + nine) Hence my nickname at work: J-9

Is your middle name "Lynn"?! Being born in the 70's I went to school with hundreds of other girls who had "Lynn" as a middle name. Mine is, too.

I like my name well enough, though when I was younger I always wanted to change it to "Pamela". Don't know why, glad my parents didn't let me.

And talk about a pain, our last name IS Payne. I hate it when people spell it "P-A-I-N". And the jokes? We've heard them all...

When I worked for a large call center, you were able to have a "pseudo name". I chose Hannah Thomas as my pseudo name. Funny, as both "Hannah" and "Thomas" are names of car dealerships (or part names of car dealerships) here in Washington.

Growing up I always considered changing my name - the only people I have ever known with my name were really old - so I always felt like I was given a Grandma name!!! It's Genevieve!!! Of course my parents gave me no middle name so no option of being called anything else.

Then of course married my hubby who's last name is Study - and yes people think it's pronounced like it's spelled but nope it's not - it's more of a Stoody - you know with an emphasis on the U in the name!!!

I really don't like my name! It's "Sabine, pronounced as if there were an "a" at the end" - that's what I usually have to say. In Germany, where I'm from, we Sabines are a dime a dozen, here I'm called all sorts of things!

I have two middle names, too. My mom couldn't "decide" which one she liked best so she gave me both. All my kids have two middle names, too.

I hated mine growing up because they were about 20 Kimberly's at my school. Grrrrr! My mom wanted to name me Amy but my dad hated it. The only thing she could get him to agree on was Kimberly and that was only because he was in the army and spent 2yrs in Korea with alot of Kim's. So that's why I was named what I was. LOL My DD's name is Kaylee and she's already told me that she hates it but I think it's a beautiful name. When I was pregnant I couldn't think of a good girl's name and one night I had a dream that I was holding a baby and I kept calling her Kaylee so I decided it was meant for her to have that name.

My birth name is Susan but my parents always called me by my middle name, Ellen. I always liked Ellen because I didn't know anyone else with that name. Whensomeone calling on the phone asks for Susan I tell them they have the wrong number!

I'm happy with mine although I did take back my maiden name when I divorced my ex so it is a mouthful. Laura Lee Logan-Beadle. Yeah I went trhu high school as a LLL and listening to people try to pronounce the Beadle (bee-dull) is real fun.

I saddled my son with Arthur James Beadle, Jr but he seems to be ok with it he goes by AJ or Arthur (his choice)

I'm okay with my name I guess, Jennifer Lynn. Being born in the middle 70's, there are a ton of Jennifer Lynn's out there also like Heather above. I'm not really sure what I would change it to if I had a choice. I remember back in 3rd grade, we had a classroom with 7 Jennifer's in it. I'm not sure whose crazy idea that was to do, but it was not fun !!!

When I was 14yo my dad called me, at the dinner table, in front of 20+ relatives, *Happy (and occasionally hairy ;-) Hippie H....*
My fav cousin loved it and had everyone calling me by that *H* name. The name on my birth cert was *Nancy*, and the *H* name was just another version of the same name. I didn't get along at all with my mother, when she said my name it was like a swear word when she said it, so the new name was welcomed by moi-self.
I got my first job that summer picking strawberries and had to apply for a SS card. It asked for aliases, I listed the new name, and have legally been that name ever since that time for tax puposes and everything else. I accidently had stumbled upon a cheap (read: FREE!!!) way) to do a name change.
I love my name, even thought the spelling I always knew for the name is not the most popular way to spell it now, and I often have to spell it out.
DH, when we got married, wanted a hyphenated last name, I went along with it.
Wish I'd never done that!!! ;-) ( It was the 70's, what can I say at this point? ;-)

Imagine having kids with names like *Adelaide* or Ebenezer* and adding those to a long and hyphenated last name!
Over the past 3 decades I have finally grown accustomed to, and liked, our family name, difficult as it is to spell ;-)
