Everywhere I have lived, there is an extensive, very efficient, neighborhood grapevine. In my current neighborhood, it is primarily discreet, and not quite as biting. In my last neighborhood, it was out of control, and apparently, since I still talk to some of my friends there, still is.

I am guilty of being part of the galloping gossipers on occasion, but I truly do try to avoid it. I am just not comfortable having private information on people I may bump into the next day!

How prolific is the gossiping among your neighbors? Is it mostly harmless, or does it get nasty at times? How do you handle it?

If there's any neighborhood gossip, I don't know about it

Only gossiping that I do know of, is when my old high school friends and I find out about someone we know getting into trouble, like when I found someone from middle school on the police booking site, they post mug shots and what they did on a web site! One friend mailed me newspaper clippings about someone getting in MAJOR trouble a few years ago, while I lived out of town.

I guess it is just to hot around here for all my neighbors. Rarely is anybody ever outside to gossip. Occasionally I see one neighbor at the mailbox and she usually knows what is going on with so and so, LOL

Dh and I just moved in a new place 1 month ago,in our old place we stay to our self,my neighbor would try to bring information,I would not give her any play,so she stop doing it..

The gossip was very bad in our Navy housing neighborhood. Jealous issues mostly. When we lived in Jacksonville, our neighbors next door started some gossip about us that was totally not true. He was Black..the wife White..we had a car for sale and were THINKING of selling to them. I was offered more money at a used car place so I decided to sell to it. Neighbor said we did not sell to them because of his color ? They told several neighbors and they would give us dirty looks.

Our neighborhood kind of keeps to themselves... which is another topic! It does mean very little gossip, though.

OH, the joys of base housing, huh??? I think it's the worse in there!!

Where we live now, no one really gossips about anyone. I do have one neighbor who will tell me how my neighbors buy everything on credit, and things about their son. I just stand there and listen, don't ask or add anything to the conversation. I think it's best not to partake in such "festivities".

I try to stay away for the neighborhood gossip queen. I only tell her things I would put on a sign posted on my front lawn and the same goes for our maillady, I love her but she knows everything and will tell you!

We live in Military Housing as well and our hood is gossip central. We have two wives who seem to compete to see who has the best juice of the week. We stay to ourselves but still become part of the rumor mill. At least I know what they are saying then isn't true because if I don't talk to anyone, how do they know so much apparant info on our family. (insert rolling eyes here, LOL). There has only been one time that I've called someone on the carpet about her rumor starting and after that she avoided me like the plague...figured I would nip it in the bud, right then and there.

Thankfully our neighbor has no grapevine. We have one neighbor that tends to know what everyone is doing but no one really talks to him so he doesnt have anyone to tell. LOL

I do have to admit that he was useful when I wanted to know what was happening with the house at the end of the road that had a fire. Seems someone bought it and are flipping it.

Sell crazy some place else, we are all stocked up here.

We live in a small town and there is alot of gossip, some I repeat to others, some I don't. If it is just gossip that I think will hurt someone then I don't repeat it. If it is something that I think might help someone out then I do repeat it such as so and so's house got broken into in the middle of the day and they stole such and such. This allows people to be on the lookout. Same thing with someone in the hospital, car accident, bad injury or sickness, here in our small town if people know things are bad for you they will bring by an apple pie or cookies or a casserole or something, this is something to help the family. So and so cheated on their wife, no I don't repeat that type stuff. Now I have repeated that I know a child repeatedly steals (only to certain people) if I know that the child maybe a guest in my friends home at times. I've only done this once though. The child eventually did get caught and was arrested.
