Summer Bedtimes???

My 12 year old DD keeps calling me a tyrant because I try and make them go to bed around 10pm. As school gets closer we move the bedtime 15 min a week. I also wake my kids up, if they are not already up around 9am. Now if we have had a bad night due to storms or nightmares, etc, I do let them sleep in a little longer........Am I horrible?

No, you are not horrible.

My kids give me no problem BUT neither is a night owl either (thankfully, since DH and I aren't night owls either!).

12yo son gets ready for bed at 8:30 and usually turns his light out by 9:00. He gets up at 8:00 am; if not later! He is 5'8" and I sometimes think that it is the 11+ hours of sleep every night!

9yo son also gets ready for bed at 8:30 and he generally turns out his light by 8:45 and is up by 7:00 am; if not earlier!

I don't think you're horrible, I think you do what works for your family.
I always look forward to staying up late when school is out and my girls do also. So we don't have a bedtime and we sleep until whenever on most days. I don't know too many people that do it my way though, LOL.

My 10 yr old has to be in bed by 10:30. She usually goes in at 10 though. She keeps telling me I should let her stay up as late she wants- I think she'd still be asleep by 10:30 anyway. Her best friends are sisters and they stay up until as late as they want all the time- even during the school year on weekends. Of course- then they sleep until 2pm everyday also. Their Mom likes it this way too! With them asleep half the day- she can leave them home alone with the 12 yr old while she goes shopping and cleans the house. They are 9 and 7 btw.

During the week when dh has to work everyone is in bed by ten. On the weekends they can stay up as late as they want but almost all them still are in bed by 11. My kids are all teens though too.

We keep the same schedule whether it's during the school year or summer vacation. We go to bed early and get up early, even on the weekends.

12 yr old and 9 yr old go to bed at 9, and read till 9:30. They can have an extra half-hour on weekends or vacations, but if they are tired and cranky, off they go.

16 yr old is asleep now! lol

My two kidlets are 14 and 16. Bedtime is 10pm on school nights. They have no bedtime on weekends and vacations. Both of my beauties are night owls, as I am. DH, though is early bird. I stay up late (and get my best work done after 10) but for the life of me cannot sleep past 7:30 even on weekends and vacations. Would LOVE to be able to sleep in, but my body has other ideas.

Bedtimes? What are those. I am one of those moms that always have the kids in bed at their bedtimes. I will admit it I'm selfish I need ME time. But, with the move and trying to keep the kids entertained and all lifes stuff that get thrown at you at the last minute, the kids are now NOCTURNAL! I swear that there eyes have gotten bigger to locate food at night time. If I don't get them sleeping soon they are going to look like owls!!!
