We just sold our first home and I have a question

We just sold a home that we were using as a rental property and this is the first home we have ever sold. I have a question for ya'll. I noticed on our final statement that they took our $1211.00 for 2006 Taxes to the Madison County Treasurer. I know that our escrow account paid the taxes last year....why would they take that out again? Also, we paid $550.80 for county taxes for 1/1/07 to 6/15/07 (the day of closing). I checked our escrow account and they paid the taxes on 6/12/07. SO.....my question is....why did we have to pay 2006 taxes again...and how do we get back the overpayment for the 07 taxes??? I am really confused!!!!
Thanks

Check with the mortgage holder to see what their records show and go from there. Sometimes these are the types of "lost" funds that go unclaimed.

When we sold our first house, they paid our HOA for the rest of the year accidently. Luckily for us they sent us that check quick. It was over 750$!! Alot of money. I would do as the above poster says and tell them that the numbers just aren't adding up for you. Im sure they will get to checking but, don't be to upset if you have to stay on them about it. Good Luck!!

The whole taxes portions is really screwy, but how much do you pay a year? I know in our county, they take 1/2 the years taxes in one year and the other half, the following year. So for 2006, they would have taken half of it in Dec of 06 and the other half in June of 07, so then you still owe for half of 07... Might want to call your local tax office though.
