Wink Anyone use Chantix to quit smoking???

I'm on the med's now for 3 weeks. Up to the full dose of 2 mg.'s per day. I have been having bad chest pains, but find out it is indigestion. I take 2 Zantac a day and it seems to help. Anyone else have this problem and how long does it last?

I will add though this medicine is great and you do not have the urge to smoke. I plan to be smoke free this time around. TIA, Lisa

I have never heard of this medication before.... have you read all the possible side effects for this drug?

Your side effects of indigestion is common, as is noted on the site regarding side effects. However, why are you taking 2 Zantac? Why not just take 1 150 mg tablet (both 75 and 150 are over the counter, but the 150's have a full rebate on them through 12/31/07)

Chrystal1970: Oh my gosh, I would so highly recommend this. I have tried everything in the past. Patches, gum, lozengers, etc and nothing worked. This drug is truly amazing as you have no desire to smoke. If you take one puff it tastes like a huge ashtray. Many people in my class get sick if they even try smoking (sure will make you quit). I was just wondering how long the indigestion will last as it didn't start until 3 weeks into the med's and only when I went on the 2 mg. per day. Thanks for the response, Lisa

Congrats on your choice to quit!!

How long did it take before you felt like you could quit? Or do you go cold turkey?

I've been hearing so many positives about this, I went on ebay and got some. Yes, I know it's perscription, but we don't have health insurance and the seller has the receipt, so I feel comfortable. I too would love to know how long it took you to quit w/ it. More details on your experience please!!!

I am very interested in this also, as my doctor just perscribed this for me.

I have set this coming Monday as my start date...I have only heard positive feedback about the drug...so I'm excited to hopefully, be smoke free! Most of the people I've talked to had no side effects at all.

My mother tried it and she noticed that she had a funny feeling in her thoat and after a couple days she had a hard time swallowing. She went to the pharmacist and told her about what was happening and she looked it up and she was having a allerigc reaction to the drug. If you ever experiance that stop it as her throat was swelling and eventually would close if she didn't stop it.

I just got an Rx for this about two weeks ago, but haven't had it filled yet. These posts are encouraging me to do so!

Did the desire to smoke go away right away or just taper off? TIA!

I got someone's off ebay too... our insurance won't cover it (remind me again why the hell we pay for insurance when it covers virtually nothing???)

Anywho... crossing fingers that this stuff works--everything else just didn't work, and Wellbutrin XL gave me hives.

On the flip side, for those that have the Rx but have to fill them yet...remember you can get a $20 gift card for an Rx at Krogers until 6/30/07!!!

on the front of the boxes of the 150 mg Zantac, (the boxes are a bronze color)... the label is a false label (the entire front of the box is a form)...it should peel right off.

I have seen them CVS and Rite Aid as well as Meijers and Krogers.

Trying to answer some of the questions. I was on the medicine for 2 weeks before I stopped smoking. I had a stop date pre-planned but it helped that it was when I went to the highest dosage of two 1mg. each day. I still have the urge to smoke, but it tastes terrible. When I think of the terrible taste, it makes me NOT want to smoke. So, I have been smoke free for 5 days now.

I am not a big sweet eater and last time I stocked up on gum and candy, but it didn't work. I am using sunflower seeds in the shell this time around. It is really helping especially after I eat. I take one suck on it until it is mushy and then pop it out and remove it from the shell and eat it. It replaces the sucking and finger movement of smoking. For anyone who wants to e-mail me directly with questions, I can be reached at lsmallwood0413@yahoo.com. Congrats to all of you who are quitting! --Lisa

Chantix price

I just paid $97.xx for this after insurance. The insurance covered basically nothing. I priced it around (CVS, Rite Aid, etc) and ended up getting it at Costco. They all had prices in the same ballpark.

dh hasn't started taking it, but I'm encouraged that it will work after reading all the posts!

Thank you!

Wellbutrin XL gave me hives and closed off my breathing...be careful with Wellbutrin!!

I took the first Chantix this morning--- I definitely have a stomach ache. I feel kind of weird too.. like tingly and light headed a little bit.

Are you taking the 1mg at night and 1mg in the morning? I got mine from Ebay and it says to read my prescription for dosing instructions and I obviously do not have a prescription.

I got mine off ebay too...

but, I have an appt to get my own Rx on Thursday.

you don't start off at 2 mg daily.

You start off with 1 mg daily... from all I have read, for the first week you are on 1 tablet daily, then you increase to 2 tablets daily.

I will find out Thursday for sure.

Thanks Dreamscapes! I think I got a pretty good deal on Ebay; I paid $59.95 for a months supply worth. I would appreciate any tips anyone has. With 1mg a day, are you still smoking or.....

I started on .5mg a day for 3 days. Then after that 4 days of .5mg twice a day, now I have been on the 1 mg. twice a day (morning and night) since then. It wasn't until I went to the 1mg. twice a day and that is when I finally QUIT, had NO urge to smoke and got indigestion. However, the indigestion only lasted 3 days and I bought some Zantac and within 15 minutes the chest pains were gone. The side effects should go away. Only one person in my smoking cessation class still gets an upset stomach. All 20+ of us are now smoke free! This stuff really works. --Lisa

Also need to add if any of your are military or military ID holders you can get the Chantix free at a military hospital with a prescription since Tricare does not cover it if you have your RX filled off post.
