Do sports effect girls periods?

My 14 DD was pretty much regular with her period (about every 40 days) had that for 1 year and then joined the softball team at school. She had practice for 2 and a half hours every day and games 2 times a week. Now she hasn't had her period for 2 months. Would all this exercise effect her cycle? She is not interested in boys yet (thank GOD, so I am not going there) Has anyone else had this problem? Do we just play the waiting game??

2 or 3 missed periods per year is no cause for alarm.

I would be concerned with her "regular cycle" being 40 days though.

What did her Dr. Say about the missed periods and cycle length?

Over-exercise, among many other things can cause missed periods, but you should call the Dr. just to be sure.

If her body fat is too low, that could cause amenorhia.

She lost almost 15 pounds during the season and now she is 5'6 and weighs 116pounds.
She eats good too.

I know when I was invovled in sports in high school my period was always wacky..... I had a period maybe 3 times a year. My mom took me to the Doctor every 6 months, so they could make sure everything was ok.......My best advice to you, is that if this worries you at all, call you Dr. Every person is different.
