Mine both started preschool (few hour session, couple days a week) at age 3 and kindergarten at age 5 (although the oldest turned 6 within 2 weeks of school starting). Preschool is more of a social experience then an academic one. Two years of preschool is pretty much the norm around here. cj/ |

We lived in a very rural area at the time. It was a looooong drive to preschool each day! I felt good with one year. I didn't realize that kids start at 3! Wow. We also paid $80 a month for preschool. Is that cheap? This was 6-8 years ago. Preschool really should be a social experience but having taught kindergarten (which was what I did the year that I went back to work!), early childhood education has changed a LOT and become noticeably more academic in the past 10 years or so. |

my son started preschool when he was 4, and i had a hard time signing him up even at that age! many of his classmates went on to a 5 year old enrichment program, but he went straight to kindergarten. he just turned 6 this month and was one of the youngest kids in his kindergarten class.

I started my oldest dd at 3 and that year I also put my 2 year old dd in preschool. My 3 year old went 5 days a week and the 2 year old went 3 days a week. I thought 2 year would hate it and we would be out of there is a month but she loved it and then thought I would have all this free time when I signed them up...but it turns out I was pregnant with #3 and went to OB appts. with all my free time! My ds I started at 3, and he went 2 days a week. I think 3 is a good age, they are potty trained and they can talk and tell you what is going on. I cann't remember what I spent on preschool...I think my ds for 5 days a week 3 hours a day was $250 a month and that was cheap. |

Wow my four oldest all started school at 5 kindergarten........The state laws here in Texas just changed and now allow all military dependants to attend Pre-K, so I'm on the fence as to whether or not send middle DD since they other 4 never went.......I like having what time I can have with them.....but She really wants to go to school like her Big Sister and Big Brothers so condsidering it.

Mine started K at 5, I think the preschool at the schools is limited to just a few kids (low income and special needs?). I don't know of any other preschools around here. Actually my son was almost 6 because he has a November birthday, and my little one will be in the same situation, her birthday is 12 days before his.

Here they have to be potty trained, so mine started preschool when they were 3. DS started kindergarten when he was 4 (turned 5 a couple weeks into it), but he'll go back for another round this year. We pay $90 a month for 2 days a week of preschool for 3 hours a day. This is just last year. The full 3 hours every day is about $185 a month, and DD is doing that this fall. We also have what they call extended day, the kids eat lunch and have another hour or so of activities and that is more, I think the monthly payment when that starts is about $250. I don't know how I am going to pay for all of this, but I always find a way.

My youngest three kids all started when they were 2 BUT they are all special needs and were in a special preschool. (all special needs adopted). At two they went 2 days a week, at 3 theyw ent to 4 days a week and it was that way until they went to kindergarten. It was all half day also. Their preschool had a viewing room with a one way mirror and I spent many days in there watchign them until it was time to "pick them up". They did fine and loved it. All three of them recieved therapy while they were in preschool too.
