Somehow thru all the recent changes in cell phone service, DH and I have amassed quite a few cell phones. We have all the batteries and chargers, etc. WHAT do you do with these things??? You can't just throw them out, but, I don't know if GoodWill or Salvation Army want them.......does anyone know what to do with these???

I know there are places that take them. One of the clubs that I am a member of in school is collecting the phones and giving them a a batter womens shelter. They take the phones, use the ones they can to give to battered women and then sell the others. Someone strips out the mother boards of the phone which have metal on them that can be sold. We have had quite a bit of success with this and the shelter really seems to be thrilled every time we bring them some.

I believe that any phone, as long as it has been activated, can dial out 911. We keep an old phone and cig lighter charger in each car. You never know when you may need it. Just be aware that 911 can't call back or identify the caller because there is no longer a number associated with the phone.

Our local woman's shelter has a donation program as well and we have dropped a few phones off there.

I know Cingular/AT&T will take them and redistribute them to a local womens shelter. I'm sure other carriers have a similar program.

Check with your local police department. Almost all PDs will accept old working cell phones. They distribute to victims of domestic violence, men and women, who then have direct access to police in times of need. I like the idea of the soldier donation also.

I ha ve always personally donated my old cells to PD's, but have seen many requests for cell phones on Freecycle.
