My dad was a "radio man" and I learned early that anything over the "airwaves" can be overheard if you get the frequency right. One day my son was fine tuning a VCR and started picking up cell phone conversations. Of course, some people talk so loudly on their cellphones in public you can hear them because they are right there with you and don't care who hears!

It doesn't really matter which company you're with. A cell is basically a miniature computer and can be hacked by the right person.

I know this is not about a cell , but still...

Yesterday I was outside talking to my dh on our home cordless phone. All of a sudden, clear as day, I could hear a woman speaking with a man about a planned cook out. The woman was asking the man if "Maxine" had invited him...she then went on to say bad things about "Maxine". LOL...then, when I hung up..there were 3 messages on my phone..they were NOT my MESSAGES! One was for an atv for sale..one was for a critical phone call for so and so ( name unfamiliar )..and the last one was a hang up...haha WEIRD!

Hate to tell you but your cordless phones can also be picked up and so can baby monitors. I have picked up my neighbors baby monitor several times over my radio.
And about 15 years ago, a friend of mine who lived 2 streets over called me and brought up things that I had said on my cordless phone the night before to my sister, along with the type of pizza I ordered.

I knew her dh played with radio equipment but he tuned in to my cordless and they could hear everything I said. that is why I never say anything on a cordless or a cell phone that I care who hears it.
I tell my kids all the time not to give out thier credit card to personal info when on the cell phones or cordless you never know who is listening.

My right-acroos-the-street neighbor and I had our babies at the same time. We could always hear their conversations, alas they were too boring though. Always something about the baby...LOL. They could hear us too and said the same thing about us.

I understand this,However, These people are having troble with the hacker from "THIS" Cell Phone Carrier. All they have done is Changed phones,. It didnt say they got "New" Numbers, But I don't think it would really matter if they did because being with the same Company this hacker surely has all their Info and could get the "New" Number by their hacked info. However,, The hacker has their cell number because he has hacked this phone , If they were to change to a "New" carrier the chances are this hacker would have to track them down and get their "New" carrier and 'New cell number" in order to hack it again.

If they did this and the hacker got thier info "AGAIN" Then I would be tossing any kind of "Carrier" and go with Pre Paid. you don't have to give any info inorder to use them. you buy the phone and then buy the phone cards with mins. Would cost an arm and leg, but the peace might be well worth it ESP when someone is leaving you messages "Can't wait till you die"

I have known about Cordless phones being pick up by scanners & baby monitors pick up on car radios. If I wanted a private conversation I use my corded phone...but what gets me they can hear you no matter what you do even if you turn off your cell they can turn it back it on & listen to you There is almost no way for us to get around this to protect our privacy!!

Since this little secret has come out now. I .hope the cell phone makers will find a fix to this problem!!

Prepaid may be a fix for them .....but the prepaid phone is destinated a number & the phone still connects thru a tower .........any hacker can randomly choose a phone & listen to a strangers conversatation..

Arrow yep

my husband listens to a scanner all of the time when he is working in his shop. We hear cell phone conversations all of the time and it amazing at the information that some people, myself included give out on the phone and it is being heard everywhere.

Just Friday night, a conversation was picked up on the scanner and it was probably a teenager or young 20 something girl (judging age by where she was going) that was getting directions to a party scene and she told her home address and also stated that she was home alone all weekend cause her parents were away. She also divulged that they had a new plasma TV and a dvd system. Hubby & I were talking and we both thought, that could be potentially dangerous if the wrong person were to have heard this conversation. Another time we overheard a woman allowing her child to use her credit card by giving her the card # over the phone, including the type of card, etc. Scary how that info could've been used.

I am just as guilty of doing things like this. I guess we just forget the potential for danger from having what we 'think' is a simple personal phone conversation.
