Actually I have. My son stopped breathing at 5 days old. For some strange reason I went into check on him and he was blue. He had not been crying I just wanted to see him. He was Blue!!! I gave him Infant CPR and he has been fine ever since. He had sleep apnea so was on a monitor for about 1 year until they MADE me give it back. If I had my way he would still be on it. He is 8 and doing fine. He is so funny because he will tell ask me "mommy tell me about saving my life" Very sweet. Thank God that I took a babysitting class in high school or I would have had no idea how to give a baby CPR.

Actually it is my job. I do cardiac ultrasounds for a living and have saved numerous people's lives either through CPR or just by finding out what is wrong with them by doing the test on them. I have a VERY REWARDING career and love what I do. It's wonderful to go home and know you made a difference in someone's life. It's not every single day, but it is quite often.

Milk allergic daughter consumed dairy filled popsicle, and reacted in car.

Swelling ensued, hives formed.

Epi-pen injected and ER run occurred.

Dont know what would have happenned had we NOT given injection, probably wouldnt have died but we don't know for sure, kwim?

I haven't but my husband has. We were camping back with our sons when they were little and a bunch of us campers were swimming in the lake. We noticed a man struggling and going under (there were no lifeguards). My husband and another man started swimming to him and rescued him and brougt him to shore. I remember my sons kept saying 'daddy's a hero, daddy's a hero'!!

Wow!

My parents swear I saved my little brother from drowning when we were kids. We were at the river and I saw him get caught in the current and swept under. I grabbed his leg, snatched him up and just kind of set him "upright" again. I don't know that death was ensuing, but they make me feel good about it.

My dad actually came across a girl who'd wrecked her car off of the interstate but wasn't visible from the road. He and his co-worker (they worked for ALDOT) were riding and he saw a glimmer or a flash of something in the brush on the side of the road so they pulled over to go inspect it. When they got there, she was entrapped in her car and was injured pretty severely (he said she was making this horrible gurgling noise). They called 911 and stayed with her and tried to keep her alert until the paramedics arrived. So I guess you could say he (and his co-worker) probably saved her life.

(Boy, that was longwinded!)

I did not, but I sort of witnessed my brother-in-law give the Heimlich Maneuver. I'm so glad I was there, since I learned NOT to do something that most people do while choking.

We were at my sister's wedding reception. The grandmother of the groom began to choke on her food in a very discrete way. She was so embarassed to be coughing and having a hard time, that she immediately got up from her seat and went outside, thinking that the fresh air would help, and that she wouldn't be drawing so much attention. Well, it turned out that she went out one of those doors that are common in banquet halls - there is no handle to come back in!! Hard to get help at that point - but someone heard the door being kicked by this poor choking older lady. My brother-in-law went to the door, saw that she was choking, and immediately did the Heimlich on her. He had to do it a few times, and he actually broke one of her ribs, but she's still alive 8 years later.

It turns out that it is very common for people who are choking to leave a public place out of embarassment. The problem is that they end up choking to death alone if they are not discovered and assisted. So no matter what, if I'm ever choking, I'll stay put - who cares if I embarass myself - I'll LIVE!

I performed CPR in the middle of a supermarket with my ex husband. It was right between Christmas and New Years Eve and the old gentleman was shopping with his wife. The only thing I remember her saying over and over to him was "you can't leave me, we've been together 50 years next month". It was the most frightening experience of my entire life.

We did get him back and he was taken to the A&E dept. We followed to make sure his wife was OK. When his family turned up we left our details and left them alone. I received a very sad call 4 days later to let me know he had passed away. His daughter was the one that called. She thanked us both because she felt we gave him the opportunity to say goodbye.......I was totally devastated.

A few weeks before my DH and I got married, I stopped at my future SIL's house to pick up some things. She came running out of the house with a child she was babysitting and kinda slung the kid at me and screamed "Do something!!". I did the Heimlich maneuver and the child threw up a Lego wheel.

When I was a teenager, we were at our seasonal camp site and the son of one of my Dad's friends went to walk around the lake with me and my brother. The kid was about 10. He decided for some reason to go into the lake with his pants on. He began struggling almost immediately, so I thought he was kidding. Then I realized he was not. I only had to walk out in the water and reach for him.
2 years ago, a guy comes to do the cement for our pool. It is him. He works at the same job as my husband, but DH doesn't really know him. I had heard his name before, and wondered if it is the same person. He doesn't recognize me, but remembers the whole incident and repeated it for us. He said it was very traumatizing for him- I remember it as less dramatic.BTW, I paid full price.

I once removed a baby from a car that had been hit head on and performed CPR on him until someone else jumped in and took over. I then sat in the car and kept talking to his unconcious mother until rescue made it to the scene. I found out later that they both died but felt like I had helped some other good Samaritans give them a chance and did not just stand around and do nothing.
