What do you say to someone when you help them and they say nothing in return?

I work in the service industry and am constantly answering questions. Some are my job to answer, others (most) are not, but I'm just in the right place at the right time so I get asked.

I always help the person in a friendly way. Sometimes the person turns around with the answer and says nothing. Not thanks, no smile, no words at all. I get sooo mad. I usually just say, "Goodbye" in a loud voice so they remember that I'm still standing there! haha

I cannot say, "You're welcome!" since I'm working and that would be rude!

Any ideas on what I can say to make me feel better?
Has this happened to anyone else?

I say "you're welcome" and whatever else I would say if they had really said "thank you".

On occasion I have had people say "well I didn't say thank you", to which my reply is always the same: Oh, I know, but you were thinking it and I have ESP.

lol

I sweetly say "Have a nice day" even though in my head I am saying it like John BonJovi.

I would start saying "I hope that helps you" or "I hope I have been of assistance". Being at work does limit your response.
I think most people are not rude just caught up in whatever they are doing and many people, believe it or not, have not been taught common courtesy.
We can only hope they realize it and change their ways. In my view this is no different than anyone saying "Thank you" or acknowledging what you have done. Whether you give someone assistance or a gift it's rude to not say anything.

I like your way. It gets the point across without being snotty.

I always think in my head of that character on SNL that Jimmy Fallon used to do "Nick Burns, Your Company's Computer Guy" (which is basically what I do for a living, and I dream of doing some of the stuff he does...lol) where he sticks his head in at the end of the sketch and says "OH! By the way....YOU'RE WELCOME!!!!!"
