I say "you're welcome" and whatever else I would say if they had really said "thank you". On occasion I have had people say "well I didn't say thank you", to which my reply is always the same: Oh, I know, but you were thinking it and I have ESP. lol

I would start saying "I hope that helps you" or "I hope I have been of assistance". Being at work does limit your response. I think most people are not rude just caught up in whatever they are doing and many people, believe it or not, have not been taught common courtesy. We can only hope they realize it and change their ways. In my view this is no different than anyone saying "Thank you" or acknowledging what you have done. Whether you give someone assistance or a gift it's rude to not say anything.

I always think in my head of that character on SNL that Jimmy Fallon used to do "Nick Burns, Your Company's Computer Guy" (which is basically what I do for a living, and I dream of doing some of the stuff he does...lol) where he sticks his head in at the end of the sketch and says "OH! By the way....YOU'RE WELCOME!!!!!" YouTube - Nick Burns - Mail Server Upgrade
