Question Do you have a change jar?

What do you do with it?

Yes, we do. It is actually a piece of huge PVC pipe with lids on both ends. I gave my DH his tickets to Blue Man Group in this tube... We are recycling it as a change jar!

We are going to cash it in at the Coin Star and use it for vacation... Disneyland! It should make for a lot of fun spending money.

This is what we use our spare change for; vacation spending money!

We have two. I have one in the bedroom that DH throws his change in if he remembers, and then I have a piggy bank in the laundry room for anything I find in the washer, including bills.

We haven't counted it in about 15 years! It could be a fortune by now. The last time we counted it, we bought a 27" TV for the living room

I guess I should think about taking it to a coinstar machine or something.

I have a shoe box in my closet that I throw my spare change in...When it gets full, the kids and I take it to the CoinStar machine...I usually let the kids buy a game for their Wii or GameCube. ~Lisa

We have one. We recently cashed it in for the kids to take to Disney as their spending money. They each got just under $200.

we have one we've never cashed it but we sometimes dig in for tolls- we never use cash anymore so it doesn't grow like it used- which reminds me i keep meaning to put us on a cash only budget- its way to easy to go over with the debit card - though we do have one of those "save the change accounts" no actual jar involved but our purchases get rounded to the next dollar and the spare change gets deposited into the savings account.

We have done this in the past. It's a very small Princess House basket, and usually holds around $20 in assorted change. The kids take "ice cream man" money out of it now, tho.

I had a small one that I would fill them transfer to other containers. I probably saved all my change for 10 years or so without cashing it all in. When my oldest DD had her first child I cashed it all in and was able to buy baby stuff for "grandma's" house. I got a nice crib and a Peg Perego travel set.

Now I just cash it in every month or two and use it for a splurge.

I used to but now I just use BOA Keep the change option and I love it! When it's in the bank it's less tempting to spend!

As a baby shower gift for my eldest kiddo, we received an oversized clear plastic baby bottle that had baby items in it (bib, burp cloth, rubber duckie etc) once it was emptied, it had a slit in the top part for it to be used as a bank.
We use that
I took craft markers and decorated the side with the writing
"Saving for a "whiney" Day".

We've never let it get completly full, we loot it at least twice a year for 2 different church related things...
Postage costs for our Samaritan's Purse boxes in the fall and the Babies are Blessings program in the Spring when church members are encouraged to pick up empty regular sized plastic baby bottles and fill them with coins/money and turn them into our church's food pantry to buy baby supplies to be given out to needy families.
Other than those two times we hit it for sno cones, or a movie that comes out on DVD that we missed seeing at the theatre. Nothing big, just fun !

I bought a fish bowl for .10 a a yard sale and that's our change jar.We throw change and 1's in there sometimes. We don't use it for anything special...just when we need change for the tooth fairy or when we do our yard sale. When it's half full (about $100), I take it in and get bills and just keep them in there

We have one that automatically keeps track of the amount inside with each coin that is dropped in. We give all our spare change to DS to put in - last time we took it to Coinstar and got an Amazon certificate. There's $97 in it now, and we're still adding to it!

I don't have a jar but I have one of those little banks where you drop each coin into its own tube and when the tube is full you just slide on a coin wrapper and its already to go to the bank. My sister got it for me at a thrift store, it has Monopoly stuff on it.

I take my change to the bank and deposit it in my Christmas club account. The change along with rebate checks are the only things that go in that account and I usually end up with a couple hundred dollars in a years time. I spend part on Christmas and the rest goes for whatever I need at the time(my family doesn't spend a lot on Christmas, I usually get eveything done for less than $200).

We have a change jar. We have only used it once. About 3 years ago, my hubby was trying to quit smoking, for a surprise the kids and I wrapped all the change and bought Rhino lining for his pick up truck. It cost us about $300.

Every day I empty the change from my wallett. All change goes into "Henrietta" the frog bank. Every 3 months it get emptied, rolled, counted and banked into "Mom's" special account. It is then used for latte cards, eBay purchases and special items so that it never really directly effects the household budget

I have 5 around the house.....1 in the laundry room, one in the kitchen, one near the front door where DH throws his stuff when he walks in, 1 in the bedroom, and 1 in the bathroom.....(change would fall out pockets so it made sense at the time. LOL!) every so often we'll empty them into a big old water bottle......don't know what we're saving for though.....if Dh had his way it would be more "car" money.

I kept the plastic similac bottles from my last baby boy <he's 2 now> so i have about 8 of those filled right now and a few small ones. I'm saving for a trip to California next May for the big geocaching event near Sacramento. love my hubby and kids but it'd be GREAT to be away from them all for a few days!!

We have a couple of "piggy banks" . I keep one near my husbands keep all area so that he can put his change in every day.
I also have a large crayon bank that I toss what change I may have in to. (I waited tables for awhile and got my stash built up a bit)
We use it for emergencies. We own our own business and I do not currently work outside of it so sometimes when we need a bit of cash I roll the change and use it.

I would love to say that we have not touched it but we have. I guess I look at it like this....at least I know I will never be completely broke as long as I keep tossing change in to the banks.

We have a change jar and my little one has made it her job to count and roll the change. The thought of giving up $8 on the $100 at Coinstar just did not set right with her. When she was 8, her change was able to pay for theme park tickets for 4 and 2 nights hotel stay for our vacation. I empty my pocket everyday of change and my DH tosses his on his nightstand so she has to clean his nightstand about twice a month when she rolls.

We have a 5 gallon water jug. When I was a waitress, I would save all my change and we would cash it in 2x's a year July for vascation and Christmas for exta presents for the family. Now since I am not waitressing anymore, my change jug looks so sad. We used to get about $3-400.00 every 6 months. Boy I miss that!

We do and DH rolls the coins every two weeks and takes them to the bank to put in a savings account that I don't have access to. LOL You think he doesn't trust me or something? Actually I told him to do it that way because I'm terrible at saving money. I just had him make sure to put me down as a beneficiary. So far since Jan. when we started he has about $400

Oh, be carefully of the glass. We use to use a large glass pickle jar (1 gallon size). We went to pick it up to count it once and the entire bottom busted off of it. We now use a 5 gallon water jug.
