Question Do you live close to your family?

I live in the US and my entire family is back home in the UK.

I just wondered how many people here were separated by miles, states or continents.

I bought a house 6 blocks from my parents. My sister is about 20 minutes away. Except for an aunt/uncle and a few cousins my family, and dh's, all live in town. It is great that my child knows her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, 2nd cousins. Oh...and having to have never hired a babysitter is a real bonus.

Tonight the grandparents took the 10 year old granddaughters to the dinner theater to see Wizard of Oz. They stopped for root beer floats on the way home and are now spending the night. My sister and I were lucky to have known all of our grandparents as well. We still have one living grandmother and tons of family.

We live in a separate town but are within 30 minutes to them. Although, I may as well have no family. I don't see them unless they want something or feel the need to start stuff. I swear we should have stayed in North Carolina.

We currently live just minutes away from my parents and little sister, but we're about to move 5 hours away. My older 2 kids were born down there and baby was born here. My parents are from Chicago and Vermont so I never lived near my grandparents... not that my parents see a whole lot of my kids, living this close... hope to let one at a time stay overnight with them before we move!

We live in Alaska, my family lives in Michigan. Not only is there lots of driving time between us, we actually have a 3 day ferry ride as well since we live on an island. LOL! It ends up being over 3500 miles between us.

We live 6 hours away from all family... We are in the Northwestern corner of Arizona and they are in the Southeastern corner of Arizona. We lived within 15 minutes of both sets of grandparents up until about 3 years ago when we moved. The move has been good for all of us.

We have not lived near our families since we were 18. I miss them, but think that it has made hubby, myself and the boys closer. We have learned to rely on the 4 of us for everything and we have done everything together.

Talking me

The 'homeplace' where I was born and raised is where my dad still lives.

Next door to dad is my granny & pa.

Next door to granny & pa is my house.

Next door to me is my brother (my only sibling).

My uncle lives on the road directly in front of the homeplace.

My Mother In law lives at the end of the road we live on. Hubby's brother lives on the next road down. Hubby's father lives on the next road down from that.....lol. kinda funny, huh? We've got the town covered, lol.

My mother & father divorced after 31 years of marriage and she moved an hour away and remarried a couple years ago.

I have another uncle that lives 3 hours away in Richmond. I have a cousin in Raliegh NC. I have a great-uncle lives 10 miles over in the next town from us. These are all on my dad's side of the family. My mother's side of the family is scattered about, both physically and mentally. Her parents (my grandparents) live exactly 10 miles away, I never see them unless I run into them in a store. They have no idea what my kids' names are. My mother's brothers and sisters are all within 10 miles of me, but don't see any of them unless I see them in a store either.

This is fun to see how other families live....close or apart. Thanks poster!

One son lives within 10 miles. Son and 3 granddaughters 3 3/4 hours, another son 1 granddaughter 71/2 hours away. They both live in Texas and I live in Arkansas.

My family mostly in Ill, my husbands family live in IA.

I tease my son that lives within 10 miles that we see him as much as we see his brothers.

For 5 months each year, yes. The other 7 months, no. My parents winter in Florida so from Sept to May I don't see them. (really sucks for holidays) Then they come home the week of Mother's Day and they don't go back till after the girls are in school. When they are home in NY, we're only 20 minutes from them, makes it nice for the girls.

Parents live about 10mins away, They lived here first and we moved from the DC area 4 years ago to a lake in East Texas. In laws about 8 miles, or 1mile if you go across the lake. They just moved to Texas from Florida. Brother and Nephew in Florida exactly 1000 miles away, Brother in law in Rhode Island, Sister in Law in Arizona. Aunts and Uncle in law live about 300 miles away. The big family group is still in the UK where they all live in about a 50 mile area. There are lots of them and lots of cousins. Growing up there was always some family member with in a mile or two of us. It was fun especially during the holidays.

my parents live 2 1/2 blocks away from me

My brother, cousin and her husband and my aunt live 5 minutes away in the same town. My grandparents lived 5 minutes away as well before they pasted away.

DH's family is 6 hours away (they just moved...used to be 3 hours away)

My family all used to live with 1 hour of each other in CA and we moved to CO as a family in 1992 and now we are all close

I miss my family lots. Having a disabled teen, it is hard for me and dh to ever get any time alone. Where we want to move to is right in the middle of my family in IN and his in MO. Bth sides have said when we are closer they will help us more! yay!

This is exactly like me, however I was 19 when I got married and moved away. It had always been my husband, myself, and our two boys. We've lived in a lot of states, but never got to move back to my home state. Now my boys have graduated from college and live two hours away.

I miss my family too.

My parent live in my backyard- around the corner but our backyards have 1 other between us. It is great. My sister lives down the roan a little. My only brother lives 3 hours away. My in-laws live 8 miles away and most of Dh's siblings live in between the 8 miles. My family (parents, sister and my family) is very close. DH is too, but not as close as my familly. Birthdays and holidays are huge family times. I think that we are very lucky and agai, we don't use babysitters either!

We live in the suburbs of St. Louis. My husband is an only child. My only sibling, my brother lives outside Knoxville. Our oldest lives on the Jersey shore with his wife and dog. Our other child, her husband and our only grandchild live in the lower level of our house. If I need to see them, I holler down the stairs. They have been here for five years and it has been interesting. Grandson is 7 now and we get him off to school in the mornings and are here when he gets off the bus each afternoon. We do some of the driving for activities and parties and of course baby sit whenever it works out for both of us, which is about 90 percent of the time.

My brother and his family live about 7½ hours away from us.

MIL lives in the next town away about 10 to 15 minutes away.

FIL lives about 2 hours away from us.

My parents are 1 hour away in South Jersey
MY MIL is 1 hour away in Brooklyn, NY
My sister is 40 mins away in NJ
Another sister in Boston, MA
Another Sister in Florida and
BIL lives in Indiana

Aunts, Uncles Cousins on my side are all over (CA, NV, AZ, PA, FL)
My husbands extended family is all within 2 hours.

So, No baysitters here for us, we do it all on our own. (Meaning we rarely go out!)

When my sister lived close to my mom, she got all the babysitting, got to go get her nails done, hair done, shop, go out to eat with her DH...that must have been great for her, I was a bit jealous!

Our family is very close, however holidays are getting smaller and smaller, with all the distance and commitments we all have...Plus, my parents have taken up "snowbirding" in Florida for 3 months in the winter...I miss it the way it used to be...

We live in Georgia, my parents live in Michigan, but will move south once my dad retires in a few years, my only sister lives in Texas. My in-laws live about 10 miles from us here in Georgia, but we're lucky to see them once a month. Both of DH's brothers live in Georgia between 20 & 40 miles from where we live, but we see them quite a bit. DH's sister and her family live in Michigan and we only see them when they come here to visit her parents.
DH has aunts, uncles & cousins in Michigan and South Carolina and I have an uncle and cousins in Wisconsin.

I had high hopes that once my in-laws moved near us that we'd see them quite a bit and they would babysit for us all the time, but that hasn't happened. They talk about babysitting, but when you try to take them up on their offer, they can't committ to a day or time -- very frustrating!

I hadn't posted here yet..........but I was online when my dad called, ( he lives down the street and across) and wanted to bring down some fresh strawberries he had just bought, washed and stemmed!! He is so sweet to me! I just had to share that here. He stayed for a while and just chatted on the front porch, it was nice..............

In answer to the poll.........I live near family. My sister and bil live with my dad. ( my mom passed two years ago ) I have neices and nephews the live within 40 miles and I have many aunts and uncles and cousins near me too. The only problem is that my immediate family is so far apart. DH is an otr truck driver and both of my childre are in Florida................I miss them.......

Most of both dh's fam and mine live too far away.
I am closer to dh's fam (his mom *was* a mom to moi, she died about 1.5 years ago and every single day I still am aching and struggling with that loss every day)
My fave bio sis, the youngest, and 14 years younger than moi lives a 2 day drive away. I hate it, miss her terribly, we are the closest of all of our 7 sibs.
My fave sil lives at least a 3-4 day drive away from us. She is one of my best friends in the universe, I don't know how much longer I can survive living so fas away from her.
We have only lived away from most of my ils in the past 6 years, it has been very hard on my kids and moi-self. I don't like it the least little bit, I miss them all terribly.
But que sera, sera, right?
