How did your SO propose??

Okay.. so we know now how you met, but how did your dh propose???

I was on the way to meet dh and his family for dinner at their home, and when I got into their neighborhood a police cruiser started following me. His parents live in a pretty exclusive neighborhood and back then I drove a piece o junk Ford Escort. I knew that officer was going to pull me over so I was really trying to get to dh's house before he did. Anyway, I make it to his family's driveway and the cop got out of his car and started in on me for going 22 in a 20mph zone. He was getting really abusive and dh's parents had come out on the driveway to see what was going on. I swear I almost died of embarrassment. Anyway, the cop cuffs me and shoves me into the back seat of his cruiser where dh was waiting for me with a ring...

He never did really propose. I had gotten into a fight with my parents over DH, then BF. I had left home and refused to come back. I was only gone a few hours. Mom finally tracked me down and got DH and myself on the phone. Somewhere in the conversation she said, "you can not just move in with him, if your going to do that then get married." DH looked at me and said, "OK". And we did within 3 months time we were married. Still going strong after almost 17 years (7/28/90).

DH took me out to dinner on my b-day. Had everything ordered for the meal and handed me a card. He had the proposal in there. He was too nervous to ask. I cried and he said "Well??" I just nodded my head yes. He then motioned for the waiter to bring over the bottle of champaigne he ordered. I asked him what he would've done if I said no. He said "gotten a cheaper bottle." Since we didn't finis the bottle (and couldn't have an open container in the car) we gave it to a couple who were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.

DH and I had been dating for 2 1/2 years and my family adored him, especially my Grandma. (Gram had stage 4 cancer) As soon as DH found it was Gram's dieing wish for him to propose to me, he did it. He proposed in front of my entire family at dinner in Gram and Gramps backyard pavillion. My Gram died 2 weeks later. How I wish she could of been at our wedding.

We had been together for 4 years and while the thought of marrying him had crossed my mind it was a huge priority because I was content with the way things were. He coudn't afford to buy a ring flat out and his mother had ruined his credit so the jewelry store let him put it on layaway and he paid on it every 2 weeks for 6 months and got it paid off right before my birthday. When he picked it up the girl talked him into buying a stuffed puppy they were selling for the Christmas holiday and after we got home from celebrating my birthday he brought out that puppy with the ring box around it's neck and proposed. We married 7 months later in July 2004 and I couldn't be happier!

He didn't

We went to my parents house right after I found out I was pregnant, and while there she called my grandparents and my father, who was working out of town at the time... he said "that's great but it would be better if you were married" so we started planning the wedding LOL... left most of it to my mother, she seemed to enjoy it and actually have ideas. I wanted to just go to the courthouse.

No exciting story here...We had been dating for over two years and had talked about getting married...One day we went out and looked for my ring...I knew that Valentine's Day that he was going to propose...We went over my parents and told them...Then called his family and told them...It really wasn't a big surprise to anyone...I love when I hear stories of people proposing via a plane flying in the fly asking them or on the big screen at a major league baseball game...I think that's so romantic and cool! ~Lisa

My husband had asked me how I would like to be proposed to......(it was at a low-key party you know the ones were everyone is just sitting around talking!!) He didn't asked me directly he just sorta started the conversation, so everyone was telling how they were proposed to or how they proposed.

I am a beach girl...thats where I grew up and its my comfort zone I find alot of tranqulity with the ocean and the beach.....so of course thats what I said. I have a very special place at Guana State Park that I just love. I said it would be so cool to be proposed to there. (Dh knew the place cause I'm always there and we would go together all the time)

So a few months later we were out on a date at dinner and he asked if I wanted to go to my spot to walk. I said of course....I would love to.....I didn't have a clue you guys!!! I did ask him if something was wrong the whole time b/c he was so nervous all evening. (another clue that I didn't get)

So, we are on the beach walking and he keeps stopping......and I'm thinking what in the world is he doing....literally we would walk about 15-20 feet and he would stop and then start walking again.....we are walking in the water about to our ankles.......so all of a sudden he is not beside me anymore again....and I turned around and there he was on one knee and he said "Vicki, will you marry me??" with this diamond ring just shining in the moon light!!(i just about swooned right there) And I said yes just as a huge wave crashed over his legs!!!!! Then of course I ran into his arms and we fell into the water!!

We then look like drowned rats at this point when we get back to my house!! And he has got everyone in our family there waiting to hear the good news! Everyone in my family and his knew for almost five months that he was going to propose and they kept it a secret!!! That was the miracle that anyone in my family kept there mouth shut for that long!!! My dad took video of my brothers pacing the floor almost the whole time that we were gone...They were just as nervous as my now DH!! My family is sweet!

After going with him for 7 years our best freinds decided to get married and he looked at me a said well we might as well. The next week we went ring shopping. I didnt want him to spend a lot of money on a ring so I picked out a small diamond and when my future mil saw it she said no way go back and get a bigger one so I did. we got married when we were 20. my husband needed his parents signature at that time.

He never really asked now that I think about it. On Chriistmas Day we opened our Christmas gifts and everything was normal same old ugly gifts as the year before. We got in the car and he said why didn't you open all of your gifts. I said I did and then he opened the glove box of the car and there was my gift an engagement ring. Then in his most romantic voice he said "umm ya want to?" Gosh is that man romantic or what?

DH and I went to New York City for the day on his birthday - we went to the top of one of the Twin Towers (this was 1997, so it still existed) - and from the observation deck, he proposed on one knee, in front of all the other tourists! He told me that it would be the best birthday gift I could give him if I would say yes. I was so stunned! Later, his friend said that DH probably chose to be so high off ground level so that I might be lightheaded from lack of oxygen, and be more likely to say yes! LOL.

Immediately afterwards, we had to run to our reservation at an NBC studios tour. We all had to go around and announce our names. I said my name, and then blurted out that I had just gotten engaged 10 minutes earlier! Everyone clapped. Then next person said, "My name is Lisa, and my boyfriend did NOT ask me to marry him..." everyone just said "ooooohhhh....." It was pretty funny.

I LOVE reading these! THanks everyone else for sharing, too!

Hee hee, Ours was on Valentines Day 1998. We started out late to go out to eat and I had purposely not eaten very much thinking we would go to a nice restaurant and devour all of the good food. We drive to the next city over, because there is not much in our small town. Of course everyone else was thinking the same thing we were. It was going to be about an hour or more wait to just get in and eat someplace. We tried different restaurants and nothing was less than at least an hour wait. By this time I am absolutely famished and we passed by a Shell gas station/Burger King joint and told him to stop and get some food there. If you can picture me, dying of hunger, I didn't care what I ate at that point. We ordered 2 Big Kings and a side of large Onion Rings. OMG, that was the best tasting burger and onion rings I'd ever had. We sat there in the car and ate it in the middle of a Walmart parking lot, .

Later on, we went to the park we used to go to a lot and ride around on his motorcycle and he picked a park bench and he proprosed to me there in the dark. Of course I said yes !!

I had taken Scott to FL to meet my parents. About 6 monthr prior to this, my dad and I made made a bet regarding getting married within a year. I knew Scott was the right guy-- there was never in doubt for me, but Dad doubted my time frame. So, I took Scott to meet my parents, and they day after we got back, Scott popped the question in my living room.

We set a date about 5 months away, and when I called my dad, he was laughing (Scott had asked him while we were there), and saying that the only reason we were doing in November was to get in under the year that Dad and I had bet on.

Married Nov 19th, 1994-- 12 1/2 years!!

My BF and I were at my house and I had gone into the kitchen to get a drink when my phone rang he yelled to me that it was my daughter and can he answer it because he wanted to say hi. So he answered it and asked my daughter if my other daughter and son were around cause he had to ask them something. I dont know what she said but I heard him ask my daughter "Would it be ok with you if I married your mom" I heard that asked him what did he just say to my daughter and he asked me if I would marry him, i dropped my pitcher of iced tea on the floor and said yes. My daughter was on the other end of the phone yelling for my son and other daughter to wake up cause i was gonna get married. When my son got on the phone my BF asked him andmy son being half asleep said "Yeah ok if I can go back to sleep." LOL my youngest daughter said only if she could be the flower girl, then kept calling every hour asking when we can go look for her dress

My dh took me out to dinner for my birthday to a nice quiet romantic place. He gave me my birthday card as soon as we sat down but he told me I wasn't allowed to open it till he said I could. We had drinks and a yummy dinner (I guess it was yummy, that was 11+ years ago! ) and then finally I was allowed to open the card. In it he had written how much he loved me, and how special I was. Then he wrote in there that he didn't think he could spend his life without me and would I marry him. Awwwwwww....... I looked up and there he was on one knee with a beautiful diamond and sapphire engagement ring! I was so choked up! There was an older couple sitting near us and saw the whole thing, they were the first to congratulate us.

We were preparing to have a small Christmas party at my house with friends and family. David suggested we sit on the couch, drink a glass of wine, and chill a little before the guests arrived. He sat down next to me and starting saying a lot of sweet stuff...I thought he was being funny until he got down on one knee, his voice was shaking, and he was beginning to cry. He pulled a little box out of his pocket, and asked me to be his wife. It was simple but amazing. That was on December 16, 2005. We were married on the 16th of this month!
