What is the best thing you have ever gotten at a yard sale?

I've gotten a lot of things but I think *the* best buy ever is my bedspread... it is an off-white antique Martha Washington chenille bedspread in immaculate condition -- holds up well to laundering.

Purchase price = $1.00!

What is the best thing that you have ever found at a yard sale?

DH picked up an item that he had no idea what it was---so, it got stuck in a drawer. One day he runs into the kitchen grabs that item and says "I figured out what it is!!"

It is the heavy metal attachment that fits the Kitchenaide mixer so you can grate cheese. It has three different size of graters to go with it.

He got it for a $1.
Let me tell ya'--nothing beats that thing when you want to grate carrots for carrot cake or slaw. Or if you have a huge honking lot of cheese to grate. I love it(now that we figured out what it is!! LOL)

I remember buying a lot of my kids clothing and toys at yard sales. Once I went to one and they were about to close up shop. They let me have all the left overs.

It wasn't exactly a yard sale, but I got about $300 worth of mosaic supplies for $30 off of Craigslist.

When we were stationed in Ketchikan, Alaska (back in 1996), I was lucky enough to get 2 Lonaberger baskets for $1.00 each. The little old lady that was selling them had gotten them from her daughter for a present and she said she hated them. I told her what they were and how much they cost, but she said she didn't care, just wanted them out of her house. I asked her if she had anymore!

The other thing I got while stationed in Ketchikan (gotta love those sales in Alaska) was a Steiff dog for .75 cents. I finally found one online recently and it sells for about $85 dollars now.

I have a Steiff dog that my mom played with when she was little... He is so cute and lifelike. I had to hide it though because my dog thought it was a friend for him! Yikes.

An original Enchanted Tiki Room attendant's dress for $1. Sold on Ebay for right at $300. Sold to the artist, Shag, who was doing the anniversary artwork for the Tiki Room and his wife was going to wear it to a Disney event.

Ok, a little background. My sweetie wanted (and Lord only knows why) a coffee grinder like they have at the grocery store. So I look on eBay and these things start at $300 and go up. So I think, Yeah, right.
We stopped at a yard sale on our way to work one day and I spot one. The lady wanted $60 for it and my sweetie and I put every bit of bills & change that we had together and could only come up with like $43.67. She was laughing so hard at us digging for change and stashed bills she accepted.
I must say the thing really does a nice job of grinding coffee.

I am going to fail the MyCoupons thriftiness test, but I don't have a best bargain because I have never bought anything at a yard sale.

I have so many that I can't remember them all. My best buy was an old painting that looked a little shabby for 50 cents. I looked up the artist later and he was listed. Worth around $300.

Years ago I went to a sale that had an old dining room buffet that they were using to put items on. I asked how much for the buffet, and she said I really don't know, you tell me. I got it for $25, and after fil had it refinished it is so nice.

Don't feel bad......I always drive by them....sometime I think about stopping, but then I think of having to get the kids out of the car, and trying to get them to keep their hands to themselves....but most of the time it's because I never have cash.....

I have shopped way too many to list my best find ever...but my recent good find was a big red Radio Flyer trike for monkey-boy...around $50 new...scooped it up from a nice grandma for $5. The funniest thing is she lives around the corner form us and everytime he rides by there he runs into her garage and yells "Thanks for my bike!". Most of my purchases are stuff for my classroom. My 10 yr old bought herself a Vera Bradley backpack and wallet for $20

I have found some great bargains at Yard Sales. Let see.....I have found new Yankee Candles ($1), Boyd Bears, new Sheet sets, Ralph perfume (new bottle for 50 cents), and last week I found a futon for $40 (it was an oak one with a fairly new mattress and cover). My house is decorated with a lot of my Yard Sale finds!
