Is your flag still flying?

Since 911, we have had a flag outside of our house. Do you have a flag?

We rigged up a hangar for the garden sized flags from the mailbox post at the end of the driveway. Much of the time it flies a flag (as today) or some patriotic themed mini-flag. So, yes, kinda.

Yes, we have a flag. But My hubby was a military man, so he's pretty sensitive with the flag. It can't touch the ground, we replace it when it becomes tattered, etc.

A couple of years ago, my dh found a great deal on flags. So besides hanging one in front of our house ( and changing it at the proper time) I have a large one hanging in my classroom. My dh has it hanging from the ceiling but against the wall. I teach science and US history so it catches your eye when you enter the room.

We hang the flag out on 'flag holidays' but otherwise, it stays folded in a drawer.

My neighbors fly two flags at all times but they get really tattered and they don't replace enough.

If you fly a flag 24/7, I've heard that a light should be shining on it at night. Also, aren't you supposed to bring the flag in when it rains? I believe that I heard these things at some point in my life!!! Maybe Haynes can ask her DH about this?

We have a light on the flag. We don't take it in when it rains. My friend works in a funeral home and takes care of flags that are torn. So he gives me large flags for the flag pole at school and he takes the torn flags. He has some connection with Arlington Cementary.

Our Walmart has a place in the Customer Service area to drop off torn flags.

This place discusses the proper way to display the flag.....I take it to heart when I see flags improperly displayed and many times have pointed it out to people, because sometimes they do not know they are wrong.....I feel strongly about flying a flag. I personally do no understand how some fly it only on special days....To me I am an American everyday....I am proud of the country I live in (though we make our mistakes) and most I am proud of our fighting men and woman, and they deserve to see respect and patriotism shown to them by the flying of a flag.....It is a little thing people can do for the ones who spill their blood for us.....

Since 9-11 I have not taken it down, other than to change it when it is tattered. I bought out Target's clearanced flags from 4th of July, so I was one of the only ones that had flags after 9-11. I gave away lots of them, then.

I do not have a light shining on it per se, but the porch light is on all night and it sits next to it.

I also have numerous other American flags, garden etc. I also line my yard with little flags on holidays like Memorial day, Flag day, 4th of July and Labor Day.

Ours has been up since shortly after 911. It won't be coming down unless it's for a new one.

Yes, we fly the American flag and the Ohio flag below it on the flagpole. My brother was in the Pentagon on 9/11 and still is today. The flag means a lot to me.

I changed my avatar here on 9/11 to a flag and have left it. I also have one on my car that has been there since that week. We had one at our house, but it went with it when we sold it, so I don't know if it's still flying.

It was wonderful seeing flags everywhere after that day, I wish everyone still felt that way. It really made me proud to see us all stand together, too bad that's gone now.

My fil 3 years ago put up a flagpole in my front yard. for x-mas my kids hired someone to put a flagstone wall around it. It has 2 solar lights shinning up on it at night and we change it when needed. The best thing about it is that my fil that put it up just passed away and i planted flowers there and its now in his memory and he fought in ww2. Its papa joes memorial.

Yes, we have a flag displayed year 'round. I'm not into all the semantics about how to wave a flag or destroy a flag. I just do what I think is right and go with it. I'm crazy like that.

Had a flag before 911 that I flew on "flag" days (i.e., flag day, Memorial Day, Veterans day, etc.) but from 9/11 on, I have had a flag up non-stop. I have replaced our flag I think 5 - maybe 6 - times because it is up 24/7. I do have it lighted, but I do not bring it in during inclement weather. While I may not always agree with our leaders or leadership, I believe in our country and our fighting men and women and feel this is the very least I can do for them (although I do involve myself in other ways). I agree with a previous poster in saying that I love it when I see blocks and blocks of flags flying!
