I have a chipmunk in my pantry

and he's driving me crazy. He actually comes and goes, and snacks quite a bit

I have most everything in plasitc totes, but he always seems to find something to get into. There's *evidence* that he runs around on the kitchen counter too. I have a live animal trap in the pantry, but can't catch the darn thing. He even licks peanut butter off the metal plate, and does not trip the trap. I've about had it.

Any suggestions? Don't bother suggesting a cat. I already have one.

Thanks!

Well I live in the south so I am no help, we have no chipmunks. Possums wander in through my doggie door every now and then though. Usually a good scream and me dancing on the couch is enough to scare them into going back from where they came...LOL

Ok is it Chip or Dale. I think Donald Duck would've got a shot gun after them. But in lieu of that -- maybe you need to get a different live trap. The trigger may not be sensitive enough. Is there anything which may keep it from triggering it in the place you have it.
Also check you plastic totes periodically, some animals can gnaw through them.

EEk!!! I bet he's one well-fed little thief!

My mom had a skunk get in her doggie door once. She was trying to get it out the door with a broom but it got back behind her tub... it's one of those old ones up on feet?! Naturally, it sprayed her... The next morning she was babysitting for me. She didn't tell me that she had on this new perfume. PSHOOOOOOOOOEY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I had to work and had no backup babysitter. My house absolutely reeked when I came home. Baby was in a pooey diaper and she couldn't smell that over the skunk smell.

I still tease her about it. She had left her door of the house open that day (she lives VERY rurally) and when she got home, luckily it was gone, aaah.

Funny day.

Good luck with the chipmunk! Did you see Ratatouille? The little old lady in the beginning has a rat problem... She has an interesting way of taking care of it. Don't want to say too much... spoilers... etc.

And, just what would you name him? I can think of a few names, but they're not suitable for this board. If he lived in your pantry, I'm sure you'd think of a few *not so cute* names. LOL

Anyway, if I don't get rid of him soon, could you send the sweaters? I live up north and I'm sure he be plenty cold this winter.

Hmmm...I wonder what his best color would be. Better work on some mittens (four, of course) and some scarves.
I would name him Steve. Its a good, strong name for a chipmunk.

I can't say that I've had a chipmunk, but have had my share of flying squirrel problems. We tried all kinds of humane traps with no results. We ended up using rat traps and then blocked the entrances with metal flashing.

In our case, they had done so much damage we had no choice. Everyone thought we were mean.

Tell him to come on over, bring the gun, but not the scope. He'll be close enough to see Steve. The pantry's not all that big.

You ladies have WAY too much free time. Anyway, I'm a vegetarian, so fletchersmom's DH can take Steve home for dinner.

But since you named him Steve, isn't he a member of the family now. After all, you did get close enough to see he is a boy.

Ok, darn it, No one and I mean NO ONE is eating Steve! No steve stew, no steve kabob, not even a steve sandwich. Anyhow, he's too scrawny to make a good meal. Besides, I already have two berets made for him and a tiny little leather jacket and some house shoes.

I can send over DH with his gun to join fletchersmom's DH in the hunt. He is always trying for the little critters that torment our downspouts and front and back porchs (he drives me crazy with it actually!) Two shots into a chipmunk and I think we're looking at some kind of shredded meat recipe.

All this reminds me of when we had a bat in our attic (Critters-R-Us). DS and a friend shot it with a paint ball gun. The little bugger couldn't hold on any more and went plunging to the floor.
