Do you wash new clothes before you wear them?

I bought my DD a new gown. She wants so bad to wear it, I told her I had to wash it first. It is kinda silky material is that Rayon, Anyway, she was not happy with me....

So I was just wondering if you all wash before wearing?

Oh YES! I spent several hours in the mall today with my 3 kids (hoo boy, they were thrilled with me! LOLOL) and spent several minutes before removing all tags/stickers, etc from our purchases. Now the clothes have been color sorted and ALL will be washed tomorrow. The only thing I don't wash before wearing is socks. Socks are usually in a bag (for boys) or ticketed together, and therefore, I'm not worried about them wearing new, unwashed socks.

But everything else - all other clothing, linens, etc - all get washed first.

Um, NO. Does that make me icky and gross???
I love the new clothes feel, the sizing or whatever they use to make them crisp and nice.

The only thing I wash before using is towels....otherwise they are all linty.

Oh yes!! The chemicals used in the dying process aren't something I care to have rubbing on my or my families skin.

Not mine, but DH insists on his being washed. Needless to says I don't wash the kids and they don't think anything about it.

Just be sure to read the tag carefully. Sometimes Rayon is dry-clean only and I never dry-clean (ha ha)... Actually won't buy if they say 'dry-clean only'.

Otherwise, I usually like to wash before wearing but have been known to skip it. Especially if it is a tee-shirt pulled from lower down in a pile at Penney's or that type of purchase...

Yes especially underwear. Now if my kids have just dumped food or drink on themselves while we're out and I buy something to change into, then obviously it won't get washed. And I'll admit it's never hurt them but something about all the hands that have touched the clothes just makes me want to wash everything first.

Most of the time yes. You don't know how many people have tried on the clothes before you, they could have scabies or lice or the flu or anything, you just never know.

Rayon can usually be washed as a delicate, and does okay if you if you take it out of the dryer and hang it up before it's fully dry. I wash things that go right next to my skin, but don't worry much about sweatshirts and the like.

Yup. Even if it's in a sealed package. I've heard that most clothes are treated with formaldehyde resins. Blech, I don't want to wear that.

I have to wash anything new.........otherwise I have visions of all kinds of nasty things touching the clothing, and then touching my kiddos...... So for my own sanity I wash anything that will fit in my washer.

No, I don't usually wash them first (besides undies). They touch your body when you try them on, right?

Absolutely. I hate the chemical-y smell and feel.

I hang on to the tags until I've washed it, too, and if I follow the washing directions and have something really shrink or fall apart after the first washing, I return it.

I never really thought of it, some items I do and others I don't. Now I have this vision in my head of everything that could touch the items that I purchased...they will be washed before wearing.

Always! Hate the chemical smell and stiff feel. Besides, I get grossed out about who/what has touched them.

I agree - they'll never be that crisp and unwrinkled again! I do wash undies first, though. And, sometimes my kids want me to. If they ask, I will wash new clothes for them. I don't mind doing it, I just personally like the new feel the 1st time.

Nope, don't do it here except for towels because I don't like the smell new towels have. I actually have a problem with it sometimes if you do.
when my cousin's kids were smaller, they would wash new clothes first. Okay...BUT PLEASE let the kid try the stuff on first. We often bought them new clothes, they washed them and THEN they tell us the clothes don't fit. Can't take them back so my mom would break down and buy them more

No, absolutely not. (except underwear) I actually like the new clothes feel. It seems like most clothes these days don't wash well, shrinking, fading, etc., even after just one washing.

Yes, I wash them all.

I worry about the people who make them, as well as the ones who may have tried them on.

A lot of clothes are made in other countrys now.

What does their being made in other countries have to do with it? Those folks have cooties??
