Gift Recommendation for Second Marriage

My sil is getting married again soon, and I really do not know what to get them. First marriages are much easier since they need about everything. Should I get them a gift certificate to a restaurant?

I think a gift cert to a restaurant is a great idea...if there's kids in the marriage, you could include a gift cert to babysit while they use it. OR depending on what amount you're spending...a gift cert for a night at a local hotel (and babysitting if it applies) is an awesome gift.

I only give money for a wedding gift. That way they can choose what to do with it.

My brother just got married for the 2nd time (wife's 4th). I bought a nice picture frame, went to Michaels and got a nice custom matting that matched their wedding invitation, then I cut up their wedding invitation and glued it into the frame. They loved it. It was inexpensive, too.

Don't mean to get off topic, but was this the wedding that had Phantom of the Opera theme and the bride wore red? If so, how entertaining was the wedding?

Yes, it was. I was mistaken, though, she did not wear red - she wore ivory with a red design all over it - it looked kind of Spanish, actually.

But, to answer your question. I had a fairly negative opinion going into it -if you remember the original thread! It was absolutely not the wedding I had or would have wanted. I still think it was over the top for the number of weddings involved, ages, etc. However, that said. It was a very nice wedding and was fitting of their personalities.

My daughters were both bridesmaids and the female side of the wedding party spent 3 hours at the salon for makeup and up-dos. They arrived at the theater (the wedding was at an old theater) in a red limo. The family was seated to Billy Idols "White Wedding". The preacher & the wedding couple stood beneath an arch of flowers & mascarade masks.

The reception was different. Everyone had masks, that really were not used except for a picture. Only about 6 or 8 people showed up in masquarade attire - every one else was dressed in evening wedding attire. The did this thing where the wedding planner along with the help of pre-recorded parts told their story - it was kind of neat. The food was great. And then the typical dancing.

The wedding was on a Wednesday night, and they ended up ending the reception an hour early because so many people were leaving. They exited under an arch of sparklers (versus rice or bird seed) that everyone lit and held up.

I have to give them credit, it turned out nice (though a little weird - but that's them!)

It depends on if they have children. If they do have children maybe a family gift such as a season pass to the zoo. A night at the movies or ballgame.

If they do not have children maybe a romantic basket -candles, wine and a romantic movie.
A gift certificate to a restaurant is a wonderful idea. Or there again maybe tickets to an event that they both would enjoy.

Well, just got back from JC Penney and I was going to look at their frames, but this store didn't carry any frames. So, in the home dept found a nice Farberware pan for $20 (orig $50) and a vacuum seal wine opener for $10 (reg $40). These will both be used often so I think I did okay. I may throw in a little restaurant gc as well.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Lisa, thanks for the wedding recap--definitely different.

Looks like I responded too late, but I'm sure they would appreciate anything! This was the second marriage for both of us, and we were thrilled with ANYTHING we got. Money was great, we appreciated restaurant GCs, and cards from Home Depot, Target, and BathBath&Beyond were priceless! I also got some beautiful frames, and I can't wait to put my wedding pix in them!
