Caitlin had her adenoids out recently (slightly enlarged). Always a mouth breather, allergic shiners, et al... Did it help? Honestly, I dont know. But for a few days, its true -- her breath was AWFUL. TERRIBLE. Its true. Other than that, she was sore a couple days and bounced back REAL quick - quicker than the average bear, kwim? Good luck!! Good luck. I had 2 kids have theirs out the same day too, they are 7 & 8. That was August 1, 1996 and I will NEVER forget it. After the week vacation, plan a get away for yourself!! It was 24 hour care and with summer time, when they were feeling better, I think it was worse because there was no swimming for a couple of weeks, no strenuous activity, bike riding or stuff like that. Good luck, I will be thinking of you!! |

So the 2nd opinion dr was REALLY nice. He was being very professional but said that he would be very hardpressed to find a medical reason as to why either of them should have them out. He was also great with both of the girls. He said that the only reason he would suggest either of them having them removed at all is because Jessi will wind up needing braces when she gets a little older, and sometimes it is requested to have them removed ensure a large passageway for breathing, and it just makes it all around easier. So right after that we had the re-eval with the first dr. I told him that I was very hesitant to have the surgery unless it was absolutely medically warranted. He immediately started on the defensive side, and things turned uncomfortable. So we are not having the surgery after all. On a funny note..the 2nd opinion ENT looked at my 1st daughter, and was done fairly quickly..my youngest though he took his time checking her ears..I was like uh-oh he sees something..some reason why she should have it done. Well he said that there was something white inside each ear exactly on the same spot. So we go into another room where he uses a microscope to look in, and this little tool where he was able to roll it into this little tube. It turned out to be a tiny piece of FLOAM! A little styrofoam piece! At first I was freaking out thinking, what the heck is he going to pull out of her..and then when I saw it, and it registered what it was, I started cracking up. He said he's seen much worse. :lol

Glad you had a light hearted moment. You'll never be able to look at floam the same way ever again. Was your daughter trying to grow her own floam so you don't have to buy it again? On a more serious note, I think it is becoming popular again with doctors to remove tonsils/adenoids. I know I will have be seriously sold on my child needing the procedure. Kudos to you for getting the second appointment which validated your instincts. |

My daughter had hers out when she was 4. They did her noids because they were enlarged and she was a mouth breather and a snorer . Since they were in for one he decided to take the tonsils also. She got really sick the first 2 days after the surgery(fever and vomiting). After those 2 days she was good to go.
