When do your kids go back to school?

Ours start on August 6.

Teachers start July 30!!!

It starts early here because of a week of Fall Break and 1/2 day teacher inservices (teacher certification requirements) throughout the year. They still go the state mandated 179 1/2 days of school... same as when we started after Labor Day! We go until the end of May.

We are all so sad and trying very hard to not think about it but enjoy what we do have left. The summer really has/is flown by this year.

My children will start on August 28, 2007 @ 7:00 a.m. in the morning. That means in 48 more days my kids will be outta here. I love them home and this is the first summer that we have had any problems. I am totally looking forward to them going back this year. Usually, I cry when they are gone.....I don't think I will do that this year.

7:00 AM? Whoa!!! That is so early.

We had a rocky start to our summer but things seem to have settled in now... and now we feel like it is almost over. and

I think that we all just so dread the homework... I'm not kidding. It is what we dread the most.

First full day Friay Aug. 3rd. Wednesday Aug. 1st is a 2 hour day - to get classroom assignments and supply lists. Ds in middle school - 8th grade - will not have supply list until 1st, luckily ds in 5th grade received his at the end of 4th grade, so we're all set with supplies for him.

My girls go back Sept 5th, they get on the bus at 7:15 am (get to school @8) and then they get out of school at 2:35, get home by 3:15. The school year goes until the 3rd week of June. This is the first year for my youngest, but she is SO excited to ride the bus with her big sis!

Registration day is August 9th and the first day of school is August 13th. My girls go to school from 7:15-2:15.
Last day, if there's not too many snow days, will be May 23rd, 2008.

I'm not ready for school to start back. We're enjoying the summer, lazy mornings and late nights. Our entire schedule changes and it laid back. My girls haven't been arguing too much with each other either so it's been nice. We've stayed busy and I think that helps a lot.

I start Aug. 27 and the students start the day after Labor Day. We end the second Friday in June, I think the 12th or 13th. In my area, we have to have 72 hours of inservice a year.(nine 8 hour days) It does not count towards certification. Regular meetings are extra times. They also count the number of school days but they have them also figured in the number of hours so their is no cheating on days.

We go back Aug 20 this year. About 2 weeks later than usual. The day starts late here though- middle school starts at 9:10 and elementary starts at 9:40. I wish they would start earlier in the day here.

I am so ready for them to go back.

Public school starts Aug 28th and finishes up June 13th if no snow days; or as late as June 20th.

Older DS's private school starts on 8/31 (I think) and he'll get out in mid-May. Our state mandates that kids be in school a specific number of days, but private schoolds don't have to follow it.

I go back on the 8th (even though I have to have my room ready by Julu 30), and the kids start on the 10th. This is the earliest we've ever gone back. But, I can't complain...it allows us to have off a week for Mardi Gras!

They go back August 13...way too early for me. It seems like it's getting earlier and earlier all over the country. When I lived back in NJ, we didn't go back to school until after Labor Day. I wish it was that way here in GA. To me, August is still summer and I want to enjoy it! ~Lisa

Our kids go back August 27th. I believe the whole state of TX goes back then. They get out on June 4th. This whole thing has really only adjusted the school year about a week.

Our DS is about to turn 4 and will start preschool on Sept 5th.

They go back Aug 13th. I really don't like them going back on a Monday. They don't even get out early. They use to start on Wednesdays and get out early the first day. Made it easier fo the kids to adjust to going back to school. Talking to the teachers, they liked it much better too. First day they got to know the kids, went over rules, showed them around, etc. Then on Thursday and Friday they could "test" the kids to see where they were at, and to find out what they needed to review, figure a seating chart, etc. Then they had the weekend to plan everything out and start fresh on Monday. Starting on Monday makes a really rally long first week.

I work in an elementary school.....so not ready to go back already! Only 1 month left till I start back Getting use to sleeping in late and just relaxing around the house....although I'm suppose to be getting a lot more don then I have.

I can't believe how different all the start dates are, and how EARLY some of them are!

We go back the day after Labor Day. I'm always thinking how nice it would be to win a big lottery jackpot so I could retire, and once my son graduates we could just travel year round! There just isn't enough time in the summer to travel all we want. He's 16 now, and I guess since I don't have to watch him every second all summer, it is a much more relaxing time than it used to be. No more rounding up summer day care, all the transporting, etc. Once they can drive themselves it is great!

I believe we are headed toward year-round but for now, we have 2 months off for summer, a week off in October (Fall Break), 2 weeks at Christmas time, and a week off in March (Spring Break).

It breaks it up nicely and gives the kids something to look forward to when they know there is a vacation coming up!

My dd and ds (both now in hs--one freshman and one junior) return on the 7th of August. I start with my middle school on Aug 13th (teachers on the 13th students on the 14th) and full day for all from day one. HS gets out last week in May and our MS gets out 2nd week in June. We have 182 mandatory school days for the kids in Calif.
I worked extended year (summer school) for special ed kids for 4 weeks, so will have a very shortened summer myself this year.....Oh well, had to pay for my car repairs somehow.....

I was thinking the same thing! I can't believe some of you are going back the beginning of August, we've just finished VBS and the fair that's when we just start ot relax around here.

I think you just get used to what you've always done. I guess I should be putting my kids clothes on Ebay, people must be shopping by now and I'm missing it!

We've always went back around the second week of Aug. even when I was in school and I graduated
14yrs ago but then ago we don't have bad winters down here and hardly ever miss any days. We always get out the last week of May. We have 180 mandatory school days.

OMG -- I would be in heaven if my DS started elementary school at 9:40am. It would be just like summer -- staying up late and sleeping in. Last year we were one of the last busses and DS got picked up at 7:17am. The year before (we didn't live here, but we heard from the neighbors) that the bus came at 7:03am <yikes>. School starts at 7:45am and gets out at 2:15pm. I really wish it started later -- I am *not* a morning person!!!

I agree -- I am in GA too and we start 8/13. I am from Michigan and when I was going to school we NEVER started before Labor Day. To me, summer isn't officially over until AFTER Labor Day.

Mine start 8/28. We are having alot of beautiful summer weather in Ma, so they are enjoying themselves. Without snow days (wouldn't that be nice) they will get out June 13th. Their bus gets here at 6:45, they get home at 2:15.

This year should be interesting in our household.....one in elementary school, one in middle school, and one in high school. I'll be spending my days in the car shuffling everyone around I guess.

I think we start mid August?? I'd better look that one up.
