DDA (Dumpster Divers Anonymous)

Hello. My name is freer, and I'm a dumpster diver. Although I don't actually *dive*, I do have a problem. I like to drive around behind the plaza and see what's out. Today, I pulled up a couple of cattails for my pond. Then, I spotted 2 really nice racks behind Dollar Tree. One is a free standing sheving unit, and the other is a rotating rack for cards or whatever. Donning my bold personality (which is a rarity), I went into Dollar Tree and inquired about the racks. The employees were more than happy to let me have them!

The moral to this story is that if you are not in the habit of driving behind the plaza, take a spin around and see what you can find.

I don't do it but don't mind those who do My fear is arrest and disease. I know of at least 4 people that have been arrested in the general area for dumpster diving (the dumpsters are 99% of the time on private property) and 1 person who feared HIV when she got stabbed by a needle (it tested as a diabetic needle and she was okay thank goodness).

Glad you asked about the racks and they were so nice

Io if you dive, BE CAREFUL out there

That reminds me. When I was moving once I went to Dollar General and asked if they had any boxes I could have. They TOLD me to go to the back and dumpster dive. He said that he would even help and that they were one top and clean!
I have no problem at all dumpter diving if I see something I want. You know that you raised your kids right when you go to their apartments when they moved out and they are soooo proud that they have a brand new couch that they got from behind a building just because it was missing a back leg. A leather couch! "Nobody sees the back of the couch anyway Mom and we have it propped up.
I was so proud!

My DH doesn't dumpster dive, but he does bring home lots of "treasure" from curbside trash pick-up. Lots of people don't know how to fix things, and so they throw them away.....mostly he gets lawn mowers, does a minor repair, and then sells them for $100-$200.

I don't but I think it is great when others do it. It keeps stuff out of the over filling landfills. Whenever I have something that I think can be fixed I put it out a day early at the curb sometimes it is gone by morning. I am just glad others can get use out of it.

Not a dumpster diver but DH is notorious for driving around on bulk trash day and picking stuff up. We have a great Aussie grill that someone was getting rid of because the igniters wouldn't work! I called Aussie and they sent new ones to me free!

The only thing we've gotten from curbside shopping is a cabinet for on the wall (for the bathroom). Perfect condition too.
