what does the term, "Black Irish " mean ? I know there was a tv show on called " The Black Donnellys"..they were a big Irish family...

Last night I was watching a show with Daniel Baldwin ? He described growing up as a big Black Irish family on Long Island.

never heard the term before.

When MOST people think Irish, they think flaming red hair, green eyes and pasty white skin covered in freckles.

Black Irish is slang for people of Irish descent with dark hair, and no freckles.

i am black Irish as well..my family Say's it's because it has to do with the Spanish and Catholic religion integrating with Ireland.

I'm in to genealogy, the black Irish are Irish with some spanish blood! of which I am! but I'm a red head with freckles but one of my dd has a type of aniemia that is only from spanish deccent
