Talking Is this safe for my Dog? Please read!

We are going on vacation and the person watching my Dog has to drop her off at about noon time on the day we return and we won't be home until 6 or 7pm. The time I get home can't be changed.
They suggested leaving her in the garage with some water and food. I am nervous that it will be too warm. It is a big 2 car garage but I am not sure about this. Any thoughts. She is a 9 pound toy poodle who just turned 8.
It is bad enough that I don't want to part with her for 9 days but now this.

Can a neighbor check on your dog for that short amount of time? If not how about a cage for inside the house? I am talking about a big kennel type cage.

Can you put a fan out in the garage for your neighboy to turn on for the dog?

Why can't you have this person put the dog in the house? Is that too long for the dog to go without going outside? Even if it is, I think I'd rather deal with a small mess than to come home to a dog with heat stroke or even dead.

Our garage only really gets hot when it has hot cars in it -- right after we have come home. It really probably depends a lot on how hot your garage gets???

We leave our dog in the garage/laundry room when we are gone for any amount of time (ie Kung Fu lessons, out to eat, out of town for a day... etc) but our garage never gets any hotter than 80 or 85?

We have a Chihuahua (about 10 pounds). When we first got him, we left him in the house a few times and came home to pee on the couch and all over the carpet. It is much easier to clean up in the garage...

So... maybe you could have the person who is dropping him off crack open the window a little, turn on a fan by the window, and give him a bowl of food and water. Also, leave some sort of favorite bed or his crate in the garage waiting for him with a treat and a few toys. If it makes you feel better, have a neighbor check on him mid-afternoon and leave your cell phone number should something come up.

Has your dog ever been crate trained? When we leave our house for any reason, our dog goes in a crate. When my dh was in the hospital for an operation, she was in there for 13 hours. No problems. She has never had an accident in the crate even as a puppy ( we got her at 8 weeks).

I think if you are ok with giving this person a key, it would be a safer, more worry-free bet to have your sweet pup deposited inside your home. If you worried about your dog getting into mischief until you get home, then I would kennel her inside the house.

I'd be really uneasy doing this. Aside from heat, a dog that gets scared can chew things, even if it's not their normal behavior. There are lots of dangers in a garage. (Well, in mine anyway!)

If it is possible, please have the dog bought in the house or have a neighbor come by and check on her a few times.

Sorry you have to stress over this...hope it all works out & you can enjoy your vacation.
