Harry Potter & local radio station..Unbelieveable (NO spoiler)

Just got home & had radio on in the car. A local radio station team (of idiots apparently) has announced repeatedly parts of the ending to the book, and plans to show up at one of the local bookstores to announce the ending with a megaphone to everybody in line tonight!

How could anybody be so malicious about something so innocuous as a childrens' book??!! I did not have my kids in the car, but people were calling in screaming. Somebody had a radio on in line at a bookstore in PA and an important part of the last book was announced. The customers are flipping out.

My 16 yr old is leaving soon with friends to get a copy at midnight as he's been reading Harry Potter since it first was published. The kids have all gone out of their way to avoid anything online that talks about the book. I warned him not to listen to the radio.

I am next writing to every advertiser for the station to express my disgust with their affiliation. I wish there were something more I could do! I suggest anybody looking forward to reading it, keep the radios off!

What good is that going to do. What kind of radio station would be so nasty to ruin something that kids love? I too would write all of it's sponsors and I would call them and let them know that you are writing to them.

That's just nasty. If there's enough complaints, those DJ's could end up being out of a job.

Not EVERYTHING DJ's do is pre-approved by radio management. I hope everyone that wants to complain, WILL complain.

We aren't into Harry Potter but my 16 yr old said it's been all over the net about who dies, what page it's on, etc... I said last night let's go to Barnes and Noble and yell out the info!! I was just kidding! We laughed about how we'd probably get beaten up. We would never do such a thing.

I haven't listened to the station (and won't ever again), so I don't know if they did go to a local store. If I am home, I'll watch the local news tonight and see if there is anything more about it.

Still just disgusts me. They said they would continue giving info so people would "get a life" and do something "good" with their time like "get drunk and get l*^d" instead of waiting for a book.

I know there is free speech, but it seems we were a lot better off when there were societal consequences for vulgarity and offensive speech and behavior.

I have to agree, this is ridiculous! We took DS (12) to Borders this AM to get his reserved copy. There was quite a line, but the store had control of it, and trying to keep things in order. While we were in line to purchase the book, a few customers around us were telling us that they had decided to keep the TV's, radio and PC's off over the weekend as they read the book. One of them told me that there was banned adspace purchased on several places on the 'Net so that when people went to various websites, the spoilers were IMPOSSIBLE to miss! And they had also heard that people were discussing plot spoilers on the radio/TV.

WHY would people be so mean spirited?!?!? I just don't understand it at all.

I doubt we'll see DS until he has finished the book, probably sometime tomrrow.

And momshops, I agree with you... Society surely seems to have gone to H*LL in a handbasket, in so many ways....
