Do not buy these flip flops!

This woman bought these flip flops from Walmart and they actually, apparently burned her feet. Walmart told her to contact the manufacturer, which is a Chinese company. Hmmm. She documents the condition of her feet as it progresses as you scroll down the page. Really bad! They apparently also sell them in children's sizes. She also has a picture of them still on the shelves even AFTER she contacted Walmart about the problem.

That looks painful.
I wonder if there have been other complaints?

I have those exact flip flops in the blue and green. I hate flip flops but I bought them for the beach. I've worn them quite a few times and never a problem. In my uneducated opinion, it looks like she's allergic to the material that they're made of--along the lines of a latex allergy. I don't think they would do that to just anyone who wears them. If I were her, I would have quit wearing them long ago.

I totally agree!!! I am allergic to latex and that is what my hands looked like after my first reaction. I had worn latex gloves for years and all of a sudden my body decided it didn't like them anymore.

She is also unable to go to the appropriate Dr.'s to find out what is the problem. I would see a dermatologist or some kind of specialist. I sympathy for this women but I think that it is her body that is rejecting them.

First - I would definitely say an allergic reaction
Second - Once I even see a tiny mark appearing on my feet, I would stop wearing them. Why would she wait until they started looking like they do in the pictures????

If I didn't have a primary care physician that could see me right away, I would have opted for the ER. Seems to me she waited a long time to see a dr and then received subpar care. In that situation I would have went to the ER if I couldn't get into a reputable walk in clinic.

I agree with the above poster about wearing the flip flops. I can't imagine continuing to wear the flip flops after my feet started turning red. If this had never happened before at the beginning of the season wearing flip flops, why would she think it was normal? Wearing them 10-12 times after your feet turn red with the first wearing is just not too bright.

I really have mixed emotions about this story. My gut reaction was how awful, here she just trying to protect others from being injured and feeling pain like she is and big bad Wal-Mart isn't doing anything about it. But there are several red flags about this story. The fact that she has consulted an attorney, all of the pictures she has tqaken documenting the injury, length of time between purchase and injury, continuing to wear the flops after the initial reaction, reluctance to contact manufacturer (although I understand with it being in China).

Now the question is: Should Wal-Mart pull this flip flop over what appears to be an isolated incident? After all, the shoes were in the stores by at least April and this happened in late June or July. If there were truly something wrong with the shoes, then more people would have been affected and it would have shown up in April. I do shop a lot at Wal-Mart, no other real choices in my town, but I can see this from the point of management, and we really don't know what was said in the meeting from an unbiased point of view, as to whether they belittled her or what.

This has to be an allergic reaction. I don't know but I know if my feet aren't comfortable in a pair of shoes I don't keep wearing them I pass them on to someone that can. Those flip flops were so freaking cheap why didn't she just throw them in the trash?

It doesn't make sense how her feet got that bad. I think she was looking for the attention and a lawsuit of some sort.

this is not a chemical burn (IMHO), it appears to be more along the lines of a contact dermatitis type reaction.

A few red flags:
*she use to work for WalMart--why did she leave their employment? Is there some sort of bad blood?
*she waited at least 11 days before seeking care...regardless of whether she had insurance or not, she could have sought treatment at an ER. Swelling and pain like she describes is reason enough to seek medical care
*item bought in April(while still employed at WalMart) but didn't develop problems until June (after left employment). Very questionable time line if you ask me
*her documentation of the events (just reeks of someone who INTENDS to sue).

there is a whole laundry list of things I find "peculiar" about her story...I think that she is full of crap.

Shes trying to prove that she isn't allergic to the latex. But that is pretty useless as she could be allergic to some other chemical used in making the sandals, even the dye.

That is exactly why I wondered if there were other complaints?

If she is the ONLY one then I see why Walmart wouldn't recall then all?

Looks like allergy to me too.

One more question? Why is the title of her page "Yet another one of my foot stories". I find that funny I have never had a foot story.

OK one more... If she bought these in April why does she still have the tag? On the first picture of the yellow sandals they look worn and she still has the tag. Hummmmm

And the yellow sandals look very worn. They are very dirty for just a few hours of wear.

PS is this lady crazy? She has her Dr and you can clearly read her name and what city her Dr was in. I did a search of all the court records in that area and found nothing but I did figure out where she lives. Oh boy I would never do that!!

I think she has a screw loose. I think she is ticked at Walmart for some reason and that there is why she left. They peed in her cheerios somehow. I don't understand why she would continue to let her feet get that bad before going to the doctor, can you say dumb@$$???

And look at the URL of the page. Why is it /walmart? Why not /rash or /feet?

I think she has a bee in her bonnet about WalMart.

And why does she have this on the webspace for her business?

I went in and looked at her photography website. She's a very talented person. Beautiful pictures. I don't understand why she would have been working at Wal-Mart if she owns this photography business.

I don't understand why she wants Walmart to stop selling them. If someone is allergic to something, it's up to them to not buy it or use it. The store shouldn't have to stop selling them. Like people with food allergies, they don't stop selling that particular food because of a certain segment being allergic to it. Makes no sense.

And I'm wearing those flip flops right now with no problem and I do have sensitive skin.

She doesn't think it's an allergic reaction. She thinks it's a chemical burn from something in/on the flip flops.

I just think that of all the zillions of pairs of these that WalMart has sold, it's amazing that the person who got the chemical-laden pair is a former WalMart employee and not just any old regular customer.

Wow~ Marilynk, I'm impressed! You and I have had some differences in opinion in the past, but your posts always cause me to reflect.

This time, I think you have seriously shown us some holes in this case. I thought it sounded suspicous, but not on all the levels that you found. I applaud you!
