The results are in...

On Monday, I saw my oncologist for my 3 month check up and blood work.

It is with a very heavy heart that I report my doctor's findings: my CA-125 has risen to 70. This is troubling to all of us. What's really frustrating is the fact that I feel fine. I mean, absolutely fine, so what the heck?? Of course I felt absolutely fine when I was diagnosed with cancer in 2004, so I guess that is of little comfort. Dr. P is very concerned about this jump in numbers, and has ordered me to have a PET scan.

This is where I freak out.

First of all, Scott and I are still paying on my CT scan and my colonoscopy, so the thought of having ANOTHER medical bill to pay for, makes me sick. Second of all, what if we pay all this money, and they still don't find anything?!? Or worse, what if they do?

I always get about 4 steps ahead of myself, so you can probably imagine where I'm going with this. And this constant roller coaster of emotions and worries are exhausting me. It seems like every month since last fall, I've been going through this.

AAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know you are in my prayers, Holly. I can also relate to the medical bills. I wish they'd just all go away.

I sit here with the cursor blinking at me...

I want to scream too but I'm afraid that won't shorten the wait for the next test results any...

But if we both scream at the same time, it will show you that there are two of us together that are going to work through this. and if I had to guess there are a bunch more screamers around here too!----

So here goes.....

AAAAAA GGGGGGGGGG HHHHHHHHHH!!!

I'm screaming for ya and with ya....

Those medical bills suck, I agree. And as much as I need to listen to my own advice-don't worry about the bills. Just pls get checked out so you can figure out what's going on w/ you. You are totally worth it. The bills will get paid eventually, just take care of #1!!!

First - HUGS to you and your family.

Second - have the scan your doctor has recommended. The bills will be paid when they are paid. You have to take care of yourself or nothing else matters. Do you have a free clinic? Does your doctor know you have no insurance? Can he work with the hospital about reducing costs? Many times hospitals will offer free care or else comp the bill if the doctor gets involved on you behalf.

I said a prayer for you and I hope all comes out right.

First of all, thank you, everyone. Yes, I'm having the PET scan no matter what. I'm just frustrated that I feel like I NEVER get a clean bill of health. The CA-125 was almost twice as large as the last.

Second, I do have insurance. It's not the BEST insurance, but we have it, and I'm thankful. We have an 80/20 plan-- so for instance-- my CT scan was $2,500-- my yearly deductible is $1,000 plus I pay 20% of the balance. So that bill was $1,300.

I don't know about the doctor getting involved, but I'll check into it. Thanks.

Holly

Yes, it is good to have insurance, but one can still go far in debt!

I think it is sad that the co-pays cost a fortune

My thoughts are with you. I went through a scare and had my CA 125 tested. So sorry yours came out bad. But DO NOT WORRY about the medical bills!!!!!!!!!! I work for a hospital. I am PRN and do not have ANY benefits. If something happens to me, I'm going there. Anyway, pay what you can afford. There is nothing they can do if you are making an effort. Your health is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING right now!!!

Hugs and prayers sent your way. Don't worry about the bills, worry about your health and mental well-being. Everything else will work it's way out one way or another.

I am sorry about your illness. A question about your insurance. Does your insurance have a maximum out of pocket amount? Mine is $2,000.

Holly I am so sorry to hear this, you girl are a trooper you have always been a very strong person no matter what has come your way. Get the scan done and we all will be praying, sending good thoughts, doing voodoo, sending curses to the cancer gods etc that it is nothing at all. I know the medical bill thing all too well too. DH got "sick" last year and was off work for 4 months and luckily our hospital is not for profit and has charity funds available and even insurance paid we were able to get write-offs on balances to zero and some were dropped to around 1/3 of what we owed and put on a $10 a month payment plan with no interest so it helped a lot and the one Doctor wouldnt take our $20 co-pays just accepted what he got from insurance as payment in full as he knew we were struggling on DH getting 60% of his already crappy salary through disability.

Be strong and knw we are all here for you and will be waiting to hear the results good or bad and will support you no matter what.

Holly,

(((hugs)))

I will be saying prayers for you. You don't let those bills worry you because you are way more important then any amount of money. You are a good person and God will take care of you. Don't lose faith and lean on him and your family.

My prayers are being sent your way. I am so sorry you are having to deal with all of that stress right now. As others have said, continue to rely on your faith. Don't be afraid to reach out to others for help. The important thing right now is to try and reduce the stress in your life. Stress is tough on a body. The finances will have to be dealt with as the need arises. Right now, your health is most important for you and your family.

Sending positive thoughts your way...

Also, CALL the places that are billing you. Sometimes, if you have been a good paying customer they will give you a discount (yes, even if you have insurance). Apparently (I didn't know this until we just recently had the baby) the medical companies that are charging you outrageous prices for a computer to read your tests would rather have SOME money than NO money. Even if they say no, it doesn't hurt to ask...and make sure you talk to a supervisor if you get a first no...it doesn't really count until the supervisor says no.
Also, talk to the doctor about your fears of paying NEW bills when the OLD bills haven't been paid yet because sometimes...they write NO CHARGE at the bottom of your exam sheet and even write off some of their charges knowing that you need to reallocate your money elsewhere.

Again, good luck and praying things turn out okay!

Thank you for asking.

I haven't had my PET scan yet, because BCBS denied my test. They said it was 'investigational', which is a bunch of crap. I have to file a written appeal. Wish me luck!
