Mine was $252! Let's just say the air is turned UP and the fans came out.

I am skipping Shoprite this week to make up for it in the budget.

How much was yours?

Ours was $211.32. What a shock! I knew it would be high but, whoa!!! That was with fans/ceiling fans and the A/C set on 80 and then down to 78 at 5pm.

Luckily we have the Equalizer Plan so it is really only $80.00 every month spread out over the year... Do you guys have that option where you live? It makes it so much easier to budget.

We do have that, but I would rather have the bigger bills in the summer and cheaper in the winter when DH doesn't get any overtime. It is nice to know how much it will be, but I would more likely have the extra $150 this time of year than the extra $40 in January.

I am curious to see the difference when the next bill comes since we took out the fans.

That's a good point since his work sounds like it is seasonal.

July is always high -- the hottest month! Next month just has to be lower.

Ours was $183.xx up about $20 from last month.

I thought we would have been higher than some since we are total electric.

Now ours will double come winter!

Ours is $355.00 needless to say air went 80 and checked all windows and doors to make sure it was all closed tight, but we did have a few days of 114 and above so all I can't complain too much.

Ours was $149.xx. It should have been about $50 less but we had an air conditioning problem with the air. This coming billi is usually our highest bill.

We also have were it can be a constant through out the year. I just leave ours as it is because right now the electric and gas swaps out. The electric goes up in the summer and back down in the winter. The gas goes up in winter and back down in the summer.

About $160... but I had most everything turned off while we were gone for almost a week. It was almost $200 the month before and pretty sure it was hotter this month...

Mine was $236. Of course it WAS over 100 degrees for more than 30 days. Plus something was wrong with my AC and it was running constantly but not cooling. Got that fixed so hoping to see an improvement this time around. This one still didn't beat my all time high electric bill of $350 last summer in Houston, TX!!!!!

Mine was $101, this was my non-budget month which is usaually $160 per month. We had several days with the AC off and the kids are outside a lot. We have natural gas heat but my winter months are usually the highest.

$225.98...I nearly fainted. The power company had a subsidized program of some kind in IL which expired this year. We keep our a/c at 80 degrees in the summer (60degrees in the winter).

$164. This is for June 14 - July 16. We are on the budget plan, and pay $155/month. We're also total electric, heat, hot water, a/c, everything!!! We keep the a/c on 78, and run the ceiling fans. I also periodically check the meter to see how many kilowatts we're using. We were gone for a week during this time, too. Our kwh per day was 30 or 32, I think, and the same time frame last year was about 48 or so. VERY HOT time, I guess???

We turn the hot water heater temp. lower. That really helps a lot.

$363.17 was ours. Between running the AC, the pool pump, the ventilation fans and huge individual round fans for the cattle, we didn't think it was bad. Last year we actually had one that was almost $700!

Wow! I really have a lot to be thankful for. Mine was $44.00 for July and will be $66.00 the next one. We ran our pump a LOT watering our large garden as well as a number of days with AC. I thought it would be well over $100 so I was very happy to see the $66.

Your bills all seem incredible to me. I had no idea people were paying that much for electricity. Bless your hearts!

Our electric bills show the average outdoor temps for the month and with our *average* being 98, it makes a big difference. The nights have cooled off considerably already and have now been dipping into the 60's. LOL. Some nights in late June and early July, the temp stayed at around 85 all night long... That makes a big difference!

Luckily, early June was cooler and our June bill was low so they have averaged each other out. At least that is how I'm trying to look at it! What a shock.

I couldn't vote. Our electric bill for July (which includes natural gas) was Negative $58.00

I don't know why because we are on even billing for $60 a month...but as long as they are owing me instead of the other way around I am down with that.

I am feeling alot better about my highest bill ever $156. We have had a warmer than normal summer, but I am in Ma. We ran our air alot more than usual, then the pool, and the dehumidifier in the basement. Plus we usually run individual fans in our rooms at night.

Ours is 0. Mine is included in our rent so we don't have electric to pay. It looks like we are lucky especially when I see what some of you are paying.

Ours was $256. Not too bad considering the A/C 's been running most of the time. Too hot for me, waiting for the fall/winter to arrive

My current bill was $130 on the levelized plan. Cuthie, I'm thinking this is like your equalized plan. Ours is not exactly the same every month but it only varies a few dollars. They use to do a budget billing and every month was the exact same until the 12th month and either you received a credit if you had overpaid or you had to pay the difference if you owed. A lot of people were getting huge credits or owed huge amounts of money so they changed to the levelized system. I've never had a bill over $140 though in the winter that wasn't quite enough for the actual bill. But the current bill which was from June 5-July 5 had a credit of a little over $20. The next bill for me will probably be the big July bill. It honestly probably won't be too bad though. Maybe $140-$150.
I like the levelized plan because in the winter I had a couple of bills that were $160 and I think the highest was $180 and I still only paid $140 or $145. Of course there were a few months when my bill would have only been $80 and I still had the $140 to make up for winter but since I'm use to paying that amount it was no big deal. I have the $140 budgeted anyway.

ours was $183.54 up about $50 from the month before and we didn't turn the AC on until July. So, $50 for AC in one month isn't too bad. Our bill also includes our water so it's $183.54 for electric and water

No, my house is not huge, about 4,000 sq ft. We have programmable thermostats on the upstairs & downstairs central a/c, and keep the thermostats about 76 when we're awake, a little higher at night. We do have a pool, and the filter is also on a timer, running 8 hours a day, rather than the 12 recommended.

It's insane, and my neighbors are paying the same, many paying more because they keep their houses cooler than I do.

D/h won't move out of state, so it's frustrating.

That's still a lot, we have the same size house with 2 units and we are also in NJ and ours hasn't come close to that. We don't have a pool, so maybe that's what makes it so much?

My July electric bill was $77. But I live in a mild climate (summer temps around 65-75 degrees) so I don't have AC. My water heater, furnace and stove are gas.

So my electricity bill is mainly is for my oven, TVs, lights, & PCs. I think my electric bill is high. I wish I could lower it, but we're already pretty energy efficient. I guess having a bunch of electronic items, even though they aren't "on", still use a lot of electricity.

Slightly off-topic, but 4000 sq feet is actually a pretty BIG house....perhaps you have a dehumidifier....or multiple refridgerators and/or freezers....or the pool is heated???

I couldn't pay that much for electricity.....

momshops- Were you being funny when you said my house is not big, only 4000 sq ft? I have to tell you. I have never been in a 4000 sq ft house ---never mind live in one. Here in the Midwest an average, middle class house is 1400 sq ft.

We're in southern NJ, and as I said, my bill is not much different from others in my area. We have Atlantic Electric, but I think PSE&G's rates are comparable.
I do have an extra refrigerator and an upright freezer. I do lots of laundry, but my dryer is gas. The pool heater is also gas, and we don't run it often.
The pool filter is a big expense, but I've never had a summer electric bill without it, so it's hard to determine how much is pool-related, how much just the a/c etc.
I wasn't being funny about the size. I know it's big, I just don't think of it as 'huge'. Well, except when I'm cleaning ; ) In this area, there are lots of different sized houses, and mine is about typical for my area. There are some nearby that are gigantic, and some smaller. I would actually be happy to sell this, especially considering ridiculous electric/gas/property tax bills, but d/h won't and the kids don't want to move, so there is not much I can do about it.

I was thinking that 4000 sq. foot home is actually HUGE! What do you consider to be a BIG house by your standards momshops??

My home is about 2300 square ft. and my bill for July was $276. That is really pretty average for the month of July - but I still cringe when I pay it. And, I didn't even have the air on all day - I just put it on occasionally when I got super hot. The rest of the time, I sweated my brains out and had a bunch of ceiling fans on. That's a scary thought, eh?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought a 4000 sq.ft. house was *BIG*.

Our bill was $214 this month. Our house is 1740 sq.ft. but our AC was on the fritz and it was HOT out. Add another $86 to that bill to have the AC repaired. Thank goodness my AC repairman is nice, he only charged me for the first part he replaced even though he had to replace the fan motor as well. And it was hot, dirty work. I offered to pay him more and he declined. Can you imagine?!

Wishing i hadn't responded since I think I've given the wrong impression. It is a big house, but compared to others in my neighborhood and other neighborhoods nearby, it is not one of the biggest by any stretch.

I would like to add that my d/h & I started in a one bedroom furnished apartment, and have gradually moved to larger homes as our family has grown, our needs have changed and we've been able. After 20 plus years, this is where we are for now. I am grateful to have a nice home to live in, as I'm sure we all are.

$75 for July, up $10 from June. We have central A/C, two zones, ~2400 sq ft house, electric range and dryer. Not too bad.

Our town runs our electric company; I think they do a good job keeping it affordable.

Mine was $211 and the kicker is that we were not home for 3 weeks out of 4 in July!! I unplugged things before I left too!

Had to keep the a/c at 85 because last year it died when I put it at 90...really hot in our house when we got home! You need your a/c in FL. in July.

This time last year...364.92
this month this year...279.11

We are going down...

Our 'budget billing' (where we pay the same each month then once a year pay the difference) is 260.

salary

I am amazed. I can not even imagine what your incomes must be to pay bills of that size. You are very fortunate. It just boggles my mind when I read about 200.00 a week for groceries, large electric bills, large homes. In New England the salaries must be lower than elsewhere.

We don't have a large home (only 1444 sqft) but we live in the deep south where the ac has to be on at least 8 or 9 months..
