Programmable Thermostats?

Looking to get a programmable thermostat. Are any brands better then others. Does anyone know if Consumer Reports has a current rating on them. Any suggestions? I want to spend under $50.

I would recommend Honeywell. It's what we have always had and they have always been good. My mom & dad bought and "off brand" (can't remember which one) and had a horrible time. It kept flipping out and changing the temp when they didn't do anything

We have a Honeywell also. It has never given up problems and we have had it for 3yrs. I dont remember how much we paid for it though.

We have two Honeywell "MagicStat" units (two zones) and have not had any problems for the 15 years they've been installed. I have no idea what we paid, but it probably isn't useful info since they're so old. This is DH's department, but I recall that we needed something with enough programmability to handle different settings for weekdays and weekends.

We've had one at each house we've owned. One was a Sears, not sure without looking what the current one is. The next one we buy will be a 7 day program, a program for each day. The 5 weekday and 2 day weekend just doesn't work for us. The weekend program has only 2 changes and that's not enough. I'd guess that you're going to pay more than $50. for a good one.

Just looked, and ours is a LuxPro. It came from Lowe's. It has a touch screen, and is programmable for the week (could be for the month???? I don't really know) You can also review your daily usage, like how long your heat or A/C ran. Also, you can set it for tracking a period of usage. For instance, when our elec. meter gets read, I reset it. Then I can track how much usage for that meter reading period. We like it, and it's easy to use.

HTH.

We've had one from Sears for about 20 years. Only once did we have a problem and it was the battery. Would get another one if ever needed. Ours is 5day/weekend one. I would like a digital programable one, though.
