camping for a week?

there are many state parks and campgrounds that offer "camping cabins" (in case you don't have a tent).

It's cheap... some as low as $12 a nite.

I would think Boston has some kind of FREE muesems.

Also, the movie theatre here runs free movies on Tuesday morning. Regal Entertainment Group I think is the web site.

Crafts??? Star Gazing with a telescope?

You could always walk the Freedom Trail....on your own, it's free. I also believe that the USS Constitution (oldest commissioned warship) tours in Watertown are free.

The Arnold Arboretum in Jamaica Plain is free. Nice place for a picnic too.

Sam Adams Brewery in JP or Boston give free tours. Out of town, the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in Nashua, NH also has free tours of beer making and bottling and the Clydesdale barns.

There are a few places that are nice to hang out and watch street performers and such - Faneuil Hall and Harvard Square.

I'm not aware of any museums that offer free admissions...maybe a few that do it on specific days.

ETA - googled free muesums in Boston and found:

The USS Constitution Museum is free all the time; the Children's Museum costs just $1 after 5pm on Friday; the Institute of Contemporary Art is free after 5pm Wednesday; the Harvard University Art Museums are free before noon Saturday; and the Harvard Natural History Museums are free on Sunday morning year-round and from 3 to 5pm Wednesday during the academic year. The Museum of Fine Arts "suggests" that you pay the regular $15 admission after 4pm Wednesday, but you don't have to.

Summer Fun

Go to different parks, you know the free kind with swings and picnic tables, etc. Use the equipment, eat a packed lunch, then evaluation the park on some predetermined criteria. Have the kids make a chart before hand.

Each day or week visit a different park, use the equipment, eat lunch, then fill in another evaluation sheet.

After several different parks decide which is your favorite and why. What criteria makes it a good park for your family?
