thank you very much! That was it. I hope it will work for him, ANYTHING at this point should help, he's too dang stubborn to go to a dr. and get a REAL hearing aid, finally admitting he's going deaf, but wants this thing. He's the hardest person in the world to buy for, so this is gonna be it! lol! |

I honestly have not even clicked the link to read the complaints. I had already ordered it when I went back to post the thank you message so it was too late anyway. If it can help 90 year old g-pa hear any better at all, it's worth it.

aldritch, did they charge you for 2? That was one of the many problems people were having. Please go check out the link KellyJef posted, you may still have time to cancel through your CC.

Hi No, I only got charged for 1 for $14.99, they had special offers, to get a 2nd, but you had to click the NO button underneath to not get it, it was really not in a good spot, so I bet a lot of people missed it. Hopefully everything will turn out ok. It seems like people had more complaints about the charging than how it worked(I finally did read the post, wow!). I am just hoping that it will help him even a little bit since he admittedly needs one and will not get a real one. He certainly can afford it! I don't know why he's so stubborn. |

Yep, and believe me, if it weren't for the man practically begging me to look into it for him and get it, I would not have ever even thought of it, I don't ever call on those stupid tv commercial things. He said "no hurry, but the sooner the better please!" |

Exactly... when I'm 90, I'll want everyone to buy me all kinds of frivolous junk for gifts... What is the use of useful gifts? Besides, it will take me back to the cheapo toys of my youth that I HAD TO HAVE out of mail order catalogs. Those toys kept me busy for hours and days -- trying to get them to work!

Here's just a little advice for what it's worth. Sometimes amplification isn't the answer. Often it isn't that something is not loud enough but that the tone/pitch is too high or too low. When I tell someone that I wear hearing aides and I need something repeated, they automatically start to scream...and that makes matters worse. I don't know anything about the device you are purchasing...it may work well for him, but I really suggest that he go to a doctor and have a REAL hearing test. Also, check into your state about programs offered by your state rehibilitation program. Ours offers free hearing aids (and mine run over$4000 for a set) based on need. There was a lot of paper work and they had to interview me and observe me in my work setting (I teach in a classroom!) to see if I really needed the equipment...they found that I do (no duh), and right now they are approving my second pair. It's not based on what you make but on whether it will help you in your day to day routine. The ones I currently have have a volume control, are digital (so they program them on a machine), have a setting for the phone, and also have a program to cut out background noise. Like I said, that device may work for him, but it's nice to have the real thing. ALSO...I know that our state center for the deaf issues amplified phones (NOW these DO help me SO much), walk-abouts, special equipment to wear during conferences, etc...free of charge once you are approved by the state rehab. Check into it. BTW...if you look on your AT&T or BellSouth bill, you are paying $1 towards assistance for the deaf--this includes these amplified phones. So, in reality, your DH's grandpa has already paid for his! :-) Just my opinion.

Sometimes with my 87 year old father in law, it is as simple as having his ears cleaned out with the ear wax removal drops (can't remember what they are called but it kind of foams up once it is in his ears???) and the bulb syringe. My mother in law just *loves* doing it!!! BUT, it helps his hearing noticeably -- the volume of the TV goes WAY down after he's had his ears cleaned! |

mdrpooh~ thanks for all of that info! I will let him know and maybe we have something like that here in NY. Cuthie~ He actually did go and get his ears cleaned out and I guess they needed it badly, but it helped a little (you'd think he would go get it done again, it's been a few years, lol) Thanks for all of the advice and help! |
