Wal-Mart is decidely NON-UNION! They, to my knowledge, do not pay a shift dif for overnight or more for Sundays (why should they?) I know that Wal-Mart pay scale ranges from barely above minimum wage to $10-$11/hr for experienced cashiers. Heck, I know cart pushers and "May I help you" Associates who make $10/hr!

at our Kroger owned stores not all employees are union, the 'older' ones who have been around for years (not necessarily older in age, but have worked there for several years) are usually union...new employees hired are not union and make less $, i don't know if this is all positions or only certain areas the manager there, said they used to have a lot of applicants for meat dept and deli and those areas and now very few who turn out to be good workers and longterm employees..he said it is because the pay is just a bit more than minimum wage now and it used to be about twice minimum wage |

Kroger in the north is Union... Kroger in the south is not really Krogers in some places, but otherwise known as Farm Fresh..those Farm Fresh stores are NON-Union. Walmart is non-union and treat their employees badly. Winn Dixie, a southern chain of stores is also NON-Union. Most of your "Union" stores, you will find north of the TN / KY line.

I personally work for Wal-Mart and have for the past 11yrs. Wal-Mart is non union. Everyone always says that Wal-Mart treats their employees badly but I have friends who work for other companies(retail and non retail) and they are treated no better than I am. I have no problems with Wal-Mart and yes overnights do get a shift differential and you get an extra dollar for each hour you work on Sunday(for example if you work an 8hr shift you will have an extra $8 on your paycheck). You also get experience credits for each year of experience at a previous job that had the same duties as the job you are applying forThere are opportunities for advancement if you're interested too. I myself started out as a cashier and moved around to different departments until I finally settled in as a department manager which I have been for the past 6 years. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
