Have you ever done something that you regret?

I will be the first to say I have, man oh man I have done my fair share of wrongs. I have to say I was pretty stupid about alot of things. There are alot of things I wish I could go back and change and alot of sorrys that I could say. Do you ever think back to something childish you did and feel totally embarrassed about it now? I always ask myself what was I thinking?

Someone mentioned in another thread that at one point in our lives most women were idiots. I totally agree with this 100% about myself. It has nothing to do with anyone else but everything to do with me. I am not perfect and I will never be.

Absolutely! I think we all have skeletons in our closets, but some of us (me included) should not open the door too quickly or the bones will spill out all over the place.

I don't know who said it, but it's true:
Tomorrow is a new beginning for the rest of your life

(in other words, a great way to make a new start).

I think I've done alot of things that I wish I had handled differently, however, all of them were life lessons. Lessons learned, which needed to be, so I don't know if I would have learned that lesson without the action, you know?

Exactly. I wouldn't be the person I am today if I hadn't done things the way I did "yesterday". I apply this philosophy to people I meet, too. I am grateful for everyone I meet. They usually teach me something about myself, or some other sort of lesson.

I agree with Holly.

I've done many Many things that I should've done differently. Lots of completely dumb things too. Some were just from being young and naive. I do believe that I have learned so much from each mistake though. I wouldn't change a thing. I like who I have became after 35 years of screw ups and I'm sure many more.

yep! And I would estimate that 99% of what I regret is directly related to a male that was in my life at the particular time.

I made bad decisions regarding men when I was younger.

I regret taking the trash out last sunday!
tripped ,fell against the heavy trash can(some water in it and wanted to empty it) and passed out on the concrete.
Ambulance came ,and result: mild concussion,1 broken tooth ,1cm gash above my left eye,1 inch gash under my nose.2 black eyes and a busted lip,I also bruised my left knee and my thigh....

I am supposed to meet my kids teachers this thursday...I look great!!!

Oh my mataje! You should look great by Thursday... Ouch.

I used to think of some mistakes in the past as being regrets but now, I wear those memories proudly and look at myself as brave and strong for living through some really hard times and also for being able to move on.

Sure do! But then life wouldnt be what it is if I didnt live and learn from those mistakes. I wouldnt go back and change them either. I would be worried that my life wouldnt be what it is now if I didnt make those crappy choices.

Heck, you arent living if you dont make some mistakes.

I would call anyone who hasn't done anything they regret a liar. Everyone has done something that they later regret. If you make a mistake, then learn from it and don't repeat it. Move on to a new mistake.

Wink

Count me in with capital letters! But I would think that counts all of us in, nobody is perfect! The big thing is that we learn from our mistakes.

Hope you mend quickly.

OMG, sorry to hear that. I'm sorry I laughed when I read it too. Sounds like something I would have done. I think we can say the lesson learned here is not to take out the trash

Yep me too. One in particular (from years ago) I plan on apologizing for today through email. Will see what happens with that.

Well I sent the email. Now to wait for a response.

Good one!

Do any of you find that you are overly cautious now so as to NOT make mistakes? I sometimes find myself being overly cautious... not that I'm cynical and jaded (LOL) but I honestly am a tad bit paranoid sometimes.

Thoughts?

(OP, I hope that this isn't going off-topic too much! forgive me if it is)

Cuthie, no need to worry, there are more concerns in life then going off topic in a message forum!! lol

No it's not too off topic, it is a good point.

I tried not to make mistakes but then I feel like that is alot of pressure to put on myself soooooo I just do the best I can and when a mistake hits I acknowledge it and try to better that mistake or fix it some how but there are some mistakes that just can't be fixed that I would like to fix from a long time ago.

Pshew... LOL and thanks!!! Good idea to fix mistakes from long ago...

And yes, marilynk, I think that you have hit the nail on the head in regards to 'regrets'... The past is about mistakes, the now is about regrets, the future is about... GOING FOR IT!!!

You know that is so true too. I wish I would have had more confidence in myself and not let other people's comments put me down like they were trying to do. I let them win. If I could go back for a short time and correct it all I would. I could always stick up for other people but never for myself. I wouldn't have believed I was a dumb@$$ like people told me like I was and I would have went ahead and went to college. Like I never had anything and was so poor. I always picked out the cheapest pair of jeans I could find because I knew my mom didn't have that much money. I feel like people judged me. I got made fun of for some of the clothes I wore and to this day I think there was nothing wrong with them I think some people just wanted to be mean. Why did I take that?

I have always went through life feeling like I am less then anyone else, like I am not good enough and like I am a nobody. I have gotten a little better over time now. The sad thing is I see my DD has no confidence in herself and I think she has seen me beat myself up over a period of time and now that has affected her.

I try and try to get that girl to understand how intelligent and beautiful she is but she says I am her mom and I would obviously think that. I try to encourage her as much as possible, and my son too. I don't want them to feel like I did growing up.

LOL!! Me too!

I guess it's hard to say. I think each experience taught me something and made me part of who I am today. Maybe if I didn't have the bad experiences or made the mistakes I did, I wouldn't have learned the things that are very dear to me now.

I hate that I made bad decisions along the way and have regrets, but I like that I took something in the way of knowledge away from each one. I hope that makes sense.
