The smartest person you've ever known?

Who is the smartest person you have ever known? I thought about this when I read a comment from a poster that she didn't consider herself very smart. I don't think I am either! Yeh, I have two degrees, but I honestly don't think that makes a person smart. My dad was a career Navy man who went back and got his degree at age 32 because they told him that couldn't continue promoting him unless he went back and finished...high school! So, he got his GED. He retired from the military, was a fire chief at the VA, and could build/fix anything in this world. I really don't know how he knew so much--of course, I didn't think that when I was 18! LOL! And, without a college degree and only a GED, he managed to save, invest, and left an estate worth over a million dollars. He, without a doubt, is the smartest person I have ever known. BTW...about twenty years ago (I was 29), he told me to go back and get my teaching degree; I had a degree in journalism at the time. He said it was something that I could also use and that I would need it if something happened between Larry and I one day. I got my degree in elementary education the month Dad was diagnoised with cancer. I started my first teaching job a week after he passed away. Larry and I have been divorced now for five years. VERY, VERY smart man.

Dh and fil is a close second. Fil was a member of Mensa (he's deceased now). I'm sure dh could be as well, he just doesn't want to be. Fil lacked common sense that dh has so that is the only reason I consider him smarter. Fil never had the opportunity to go to college but you would never have known it. Having a smart dh though is sometimes frustrating and I was in National Honor Society, honor roll, have a BS in accounting, etc. so I'm no dumb bunny but they are/were way out of my league. The speed thing is what kills me, dh is like 10 steps ahead of me in his thinking process and I have to sit there and think a bit before I understand what he's saying. Wouldn't trade him for the world though!

My Grandpa.

Unfortunately, I didn't realize HOW smart until he passed. Not just book smart, other-smart too.

<sigh> I really hope I can see him again someday. It's was 10 years July 2nd, and I miss him just as much now as I did at first.

My 75 year old neighbor in FLorida. Sharp as a tack held numerous degrees and Mensa memeber for him and 3 of 5 daughters. Had a photographic memory and never forgot anything he read or saw and was the most down to earth talk with the normal people man you would ever have the priveledge of meeting. His wife laughed that the grocery shopping would be to the penny. He did miss by 1 or 2 cents sometimes LOL I miss them the most from our move. Surrogate parents while we lived there.

Dh is incredibly smart... but gets at a level in his mind that he fails to bring people with him LOL
He is an engineer and thinks in a different dimension that I can process I try to follow.. but uh huh, mmm mmm, yeah, etc

I also didnt think when I was younger my dad knew anything now I realize how he knew everything.

I had an uncle who was a genious........book smarts only tho.
Didn't much have the common sense to come in out of the rain!

I know several people who are very smart in lots of ways and some who are only smart in one way.
My DH is smart in some areas and in others, no way!
Most people I know are smarter than I am but they like me anyway!!!
