Smile Casino Party

I am giving my husband a surprise party for his birthday on August 18th. Since he loves to play cards (specifically Texas Hold em), I've decided I would go with a casino theme.

I've got a roulette wheel and the poker table. I'm planning on serving finger foods. I've got a few ideas for thematic cocktails. I've looked on the internet for other ideas and have found some good ones. However, one can never have enough ideas. So has anyone ever given or been to one or maybe just have any ideas?

TIA! I really appreciate it.

We are actually doing the same type of party for my moms 50th B-Day (aug. 10th). I threw in the thought of a roulette wheel and a blackjack table but she didnt want that too so there went that idea, but we are doing different types of poker games. Mostly Texas Hold'em as well. I will let you know how it goes though.

Saw a DIY network special on a casino "Monte Carlo" style party... Here is the link to their ideas.. Scroll to the bottom of the linked page and be sure and see the "Also in this episode" links. They show how to make some of the decor and Food they used.

Have a great party!

Thanks so much for the ideas. I really appreciate it. Xhausted, thanks so much for the link.

Anyone else with experience with a casino party?

You all are great and this is why I love this board. I can always come here with a question and at least one person, usually more, always comes back with great responses.

Thanks again,

Judi

I had a poker night for dh's surprise 40th and it was a huge hit! I wanted to get a roulette wheel and other games but decided to just go with poker. Everyone had a blast and dh was totally surprised. I made up this cute invitation, it was a poem type thing that was really neat (started out "Lordy, Lordy, look who's 40, Let's do it up right, join us for Poker night!" and so on and so on....). I also found some chocolates wrapped in poker chip wrappers (geez I think at the dollar store of all places!). Had tons of finger foods and several flavors of jell-o shots.

Hi Janenga,

Can you give me some specifics on this party. How did the night progress? Did people start playing before your husband arrived? What type of finger foods did you serve? Did you give everyone chips to play with? How did you figure out who would be the dealer? I read on another site that the hostess would give bonus chips to people as an incentive to deal. What type of decorations did you use? TIA.

I had the party at our house. I told dh he had to be showerd and dressed by 5:30 (I told the guests to arrive at 6) but I told him nothing else. He was ready before anyone showed up, and was really surprised when people starting arriving. One of my friends was bringing his poker table and the chips so I didn't have to worry about hiding everything. I also had the food hidden at another neighbor's who was coming to the party, so she brought the food. If he saw the food he would have known something was up. I served Buffalo chicken wing dip, chips & salsa, cheece/crackers/pepperoni, mini subs (8in subs I cut into 2in pieces), chips/pretzels/dip, sweet & sour meatballs, geez....can't remember if that was all I served or if there was more food. Everyone brought their own cash to trade for the chips. Everyone took turns being the dealer. The dealer got to decide what type of game we would be playing that round. It was a lot of fun not having to play the same game over and over. I didn't worry too much about the decorations, cuz I would have had to explain why they were up.

Here's the invite, I thought it was kind of clever!

Lordy, Lordy, Marks' turning FORTY!!
Let's do it up right, join us for 'Poker Night'!

Bring your spare change, let's see how you fare
Hopefully your hand will have more than a pair!

Come ready to bet on the 19th of November,
Mark it on your calendar so you will remember!

6 O'Clock sharp is the time to meet,
For plenty of fun and good food to eat!

Please dont squeal, he has no idea!

And then this one was for my gf's dh on his 40th:

Bob's turning 40,
Yep an old bag........

So gifts are not necessary
Unless they're a gag

He has no idea.......

'cause it's a SURPRISE!!
So if Bob starts to question....
Tell him nothing but lies!!

We hope you can come for food,
Spirits and smiley's.......
As we yell out surprise to Bob
Down at Miley's
(bar we had the party at)
