Do you really have to pay to apply for a federal job?

I get emails with listing of federal jobs. There is one I might be a decent candidate for but I really don't want to pay for a subscription.
Does anyone know about this?

USAJOBS - The Federal Government's Official Jobs Site

You don't have to pay to apply, but some pay for the expertise other's have to write targeted KSAs that will get them past the initial selection process.

If you are serious, I would suggest buying a book about applying for federal jobs and also doing an internet search. There are some free advice sites to help you write your KSAs.

No, you don't have to pay to apply for a federal job. That's a scheme that's been going around for years. If you feel you have the skills for a particular job, maybe talk to someone familiar with what you're applying for and get some information from them on how to make your application look more 'attractive'.

Good luck!

It is more than an attractive application. I took at least a week, full time, to write my KSAs for my current job. It is an art. I know people much more qualified for my current job applied, but their KSAs didn't get them past the selection committee to get to the hiring authority.

Search the USA Jobs site. If there is something that interests you, read the job duties and KSAs. If you think you qualify, give it a shot. But, my bet is you will need to research how to write a federal job application.

However, you DO NOT have to pay someone to apply for you or to write you KSAs if you believe you can do it. I did. But I researched it, bought a book to help me, and it took lots of time and effort.

What do you mean about paying for a subscription? If you go to the USA Job site, you can make your own email alert for your area of the country or for the particular job type you are looking for.

It is free and very easy.

Go to USAJOBS. That is the federal site. No fee to get everything you need to know about a job offering.

NO this is a scam. The Federal Government posts their job openings through each state's employment office (how I got my Federal Job) and they have their own website as well as postings in other venues.

That doesn't make sense. All Fed jobs are publicly posted.

This site might help answer your questions.
>>> Federal and Postal Job Scams: Tip-offs to Rip-offs

Quote:
You never have to pay for information about job vacancies or employment opportunities with the U.S. government or U.S. Postal Service.
Quote:
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the U.S. Office of Personnel Management urge job seekers to avoid falling for these tip-offs to federal and postal job rip-offs:

Classified ads or verbal sales pitches that imply an affiliation with the federal government, guarantee high test scores or jobs or state that "no experience is necessary."
Ads that offer information about "hidden" or unadvertised federal jobs.
Ads that refer to a toll-free phone number. Often, in these cases, an operator encourages you to buy a "valuable" booklet containing job listings, practice test questions and tips for entrance exams.
Toll-free numbers that direct you to other pay-per-call numbers for more information. Under federal law, any solicitations for pay-per-call numbers must contain full disclosures about cost. Also, the solicitation must make clear if there is an affiliation with the federal government. You must have a chance to hang up before you incur any charges.
Quote:
Federal job information is available through the U.S. Office of Personnel Management's USAJOBS at USAJOBS - The Federal Government's Official Jobs Site.
(as nightowlrn stated earlier)

Really, OP, it sounds like a scam to get some money out of you My bet is that if you did pay the subscription fee, the job posting you are interested in will suddenly be filled or disappear.
