New here---kinda long

Hi everyone,

I have lurked around here for a long time and get a kick out of reading the posts. I thought maybe you all would be able to direct me.....I appologize in advance if this is not the right place.

I am looking for work that I can do from home. ie Data Entry, medical transcribing etc.....I have searched the internet but they all seem like scams. I've been told that if you have to pay to work for any place, it must be a scam.

I am very able bodied and could work outside the home but I have a two month old daughter (also 8 yr old DS and 12 yr old DD) and in the little town that we live in, it would cost me 3 times my wages in daycare.....not to mention I REALLY don't want to leave my little one.

DH works his butt off but as I said, it's a small town and the wages here are the pits. We moved here about two years ago and our house is paid for (Thank goodness) but we still have monthly expenses of course and things are stretched VERY thin. The main reason we moved was so that I could stay home and we wanted to have another baby.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

Lori

How about babysitting a child or two in your home? Or an early morning paper route or something like that?

there are a few posts here already. In my experience, it's hard to get into medical transcription UNLESS you have an "in" with a doc in town. Most used services and not at home workers. Data Entry is hard to come by because most companies want you to work in house first and then negotiate to be at home. There are jobs where you take phone calls for companies BUT that also means you can't be at the beck and call of your child and you have to have a pretty quiet environment.

I hope someone else can help. I don't mean to burst your bubble but it's you are right, if they want money it's a scam so don't fall for it

Thank you for the suggestions. I will check out those sites.

I had seen the posts about taking calls at home .....I worked at a call center for 10 years so I know how to do the job.....It may be an option in the future when my little one is on more of a schedule with naps etc, but right now we are still trying to master a breastfeeding schedule so I can't guarantee quiet at any given time. Besides, the other two are still on summer vacation for a couple of weeks.

I will also check into the paper route. DH leaves for work around 4 am so I may be able to work something out where I'm home by the time he leaves for work or something. Good news is the baby is sleeping until about 5am these days. Woo Hoo!

As far as childcare in my home...I know this sounds horrible, but I don't like other people's kids. Does that make sense? I love my children and they are my everything but I'm not even good with friends coming over to visit (I don't deal well with people who don't respect our things the way we do) so I wouldn't make a good daycare person.

Thank you again!

Lori

Don't feel bad. I am the exact same way. I don't even babysit my nephews. This is one reason we don't do birthday parties at our house. If there are other children here, I am constantly wondering after them making sure they aren't getting into anything. I don't let my kids out of my site when we are at someones house, and I always check on them if they happen to go into a different room.

I have always been like this as well! I'm glad to know that others feel the same way. It does get easier as they get older... They also reach a certain age when they won't leave your side when you go to other people's house. They want to be a kid but they also want to be an -- around age 12?! They love to listen to conversations and chime in with *all* that they *know*. LOL. It's cute.

As far as the original question (!), no one has mentioned eBay. That is another thing that can be done 100% from home that works really well for stay at home parent(s). That is when I started... Nice thing is that now that my own kids are getting older, I no longer feel like I have to stay at home and so I've gradually laid way back on eBay and am exploring other things... Another nice thing is that on any given day, you can do as much or as little as is possible.

I do it all from home from taking pictures, writing up the listings, and shipping... ALL from home.

MyCoupons has an Auction Talk Board. We are very helpful over there if you do decide to try this out. There are pages and pages of sage advice already over there. We welcome lurkers.

Just a thought.

I could never do daycare myself.....I think that requires special skills and personality that I drew the short stick on. I am not good with infants, at all. However, there might be a few ideal scenarios that would work....like taking one child that was similiar in age and interests to my own child for a little extra money.
