Smelly Sandals

My ds sandals smell like something died on them. I soaked them, cleaned them with baby wipes, put them in the sun but nothing gets out the smell. The smell goes away with each cleaning but it comes back after he wears them. He doesn't have this problem with any other shoes. Does anyone have a clue what to do with them?? It's really bad when he takes them off in the car, I beg him to put them back on!

I would clean them with vinegar - that takes out every bad smell I've ever come across in clothing.

From then on, I'd have your DS spray his feet with one of those foot sprays - I think Dr. Scholls makes one.

I read once to put shoes in the freezer to kill the foot odor. Good luck.

Febreze might help?! Either that or a clothespin on your nose! LOL. It's the bacteria that makes body odor so smelly so maybe try rubbing them with antibacterial gel? That's what I use for the sponges at the sink -- I squoosh it in and let the sponge soak for about 5 minutes or more and then I rinse with water and it removes the odor.

Why is it that certain shoes smell worse then others? I sometimes think that it is the worst on sandals and things where the foot sweat is directly in contact with the rubber.

I'll never forget my own feet smelling soooo bad when I had the jellies in the '70's. That was horrible! All they were good for was slogging around in the creek because you certainly couldn't wear them in public.

Is it the shoes or is is the sweat produced by wearing the shoes??

On Oprah, Dr. Oz was doing some of his home remedy stuff. He cured one girl's stinky feet by having her soak her feet in brewed tea. The tanic (tannic?) acid killed the stink in her feet and her college dorm roommates were much appreciative.

If the shoes can go in the washer I would toss them in for a washing and add some vinegar to the rinse water. I toss my daughter's Crocs in the water cause she does have stinky feet and they get a bit smelly though they are not supposed too.

once or twice in the washer ought to get rid of the smell. if they have any kind of removable innersole wash it separately. this works well for smelly sneakers too! then dry in the sun.

I put DEODORANT on my feet before I wear sandals, or anything other type of shoe that doesn't reqire socks. It REALLY works awesome! You can buy the clear deodorant now days, or even the spray kind works well.

:O)
