There are no paid positions in the church I grew up in.
All volunteer.
My Dad served as pastor for years, my mom served as Music director, and Youth Leader.

There are no paid positions at the church I am a member of. Everyone is expected to serve where called, very rarely does anyone turn down a position they are called to. I've taught Sunday School (Old Testament); worked in Nursery (babies 18 months - 3 yrs) where even the babies are given simple lessons; worked with youth ages 10 and 11; and am currently secretary of the youth girls 12-18. My husband has done various callings as well, taught sunday school to 6-7 yr olds; worked with the 12-13 yr old boys(extensive calling because of scouting things as well) and he is currently in the bishopric (head leadership of each ward). The Bishop is the father of the Ward(our church has boundaries so you go at a specific time to the church to meet with members in your boundaries) but is different from a pastor in that the bishop doesn't really preach over the pulpit, they assign speakers and topics for each Sunday.

I'm just curious how big the churches are that have no paid positions? Are your pastors full-time pastors or do they have other (non churck) jobs as well. At our church the paid positions are full time positions except the organist and choir director and they make a very little amount. We also have many, many volunteer jobs such as Sunday School teachers, nursery workers, children's church leaders, various boards to be a member of, homebound visitor, and the list could go on and on.

By the way, our church attendance is around a 375 average each week.

Our church is small, attendance is 60-75 a week. Our Pastor is full time and paid a full time salary. The janitor (from the church) cleans once a week and is paid $150 a month, he is on disability so can only make a certain amount.. I am the Youth Director, it is a volunteer postion. The organist and pianist are also volunteer posititions as well as the church secretary. They do pay someone (from the church) to cut the grass. There are 2 adult Sunday school classes and one childrens Sunday school class, all are volunteer postitions for the teachers. When anything big needs to be done, spring cleaning, decorating for Christmas, cleaning out flower beds, etc. then the womens group organizes volunteers to get the jobs done by having a big work day.

Our ward was roughly 500 before they split the boundaries, and so now I'd guess it's around 250, but we have a lot of growth in our area and about 2 new families moving in weekly. Our Bishop is also an insurance agent, so he really has 2 full time jobs, only one of which he's paid for. He has church things at least for 12 hours straight on Sundays, meeting with the different auxiliaries, then meetings on Tuesday nights, Wednesday nights, then differnt church activities on other nights and weekends that he needs to attend. He also goes on the scout trips, went to High Adventure which was a week long, and then to the camp that the youth girls go on which was another 4 days. Our worldwide membership is about 11 million.

Also, I forgot to add, the members also take turns cleaning the church weekly, on a Saturday. And meets last in the building, they are the ones to take out the trash on Sundays so it's not sitting until Saturday.

I've been the pianist at every church we attended since growing up (been playing for over 45 years). I took years to perfect my talent and spent lots of money on lessons, even going on to college. Why is it the pianist and organist in almost every church never gets paid anything?? Why is it the janitor gets paid? The person that mows the grass is paid? But trained musicians who are expected to be at every service, every function, every practice, every revival are hardly ever paid? If you ask about it, it's said that the Lord gave you the talent, so you should use it for His glory. Yes, that is true, but I can't understand why these positions aren't paid positions. We certainly put in plenty of practice and money for our talent.

At our church, the pastor, youth pastor, church secretary, janitor, person who mows the grass, assistant pastor and music director are paid. There's talk now about hiring someone to oversee the nursery during both services now.
